To be fair, the final pieces for the Mavericks were a Hornet and a Wizard.

Both Black and Harris are good defenders. Black is a 20 year old PG who is only scratching the surface. No way they make the trade. The Magic could've just signed Russell as a free agent if they wanted him.

I don't buy that Russell or Wood are winners, and I can't see their personalities blending in.

If the Magic add anything, it might be another wing who could handle the ball, defend, and shoot. They have plenty of guards and play a lot of 3 guard lineups that I hate.

Orlando is young and drafts well stay the course because the team will get expensive

Not a final piece but Olynyk would be good there. He'd pull away the interior defense which would let Franz and Paulo cook. The Magic need a player like Chet or Porzingus to push to the next level.

The title says “contenders” NOT lottery bound.

They have a better player that does the exact same thing at a higher level, Jonathan Isaac.

People don’t like to admit this, but this is probably the best and most realistic sensible answer.
