Wolves get better by cost reduction and backups. Could easily put Micic in the lineup.

is that Grant or Mark Williams?

Mark's injury history is concerning, but I'd still rather gamble on his health than punt him, he's also wasted behind Gobert even if he is healthy.

Grant? yeah take him. I don't like or even want Randle, but he's a talent upgrade without a doubt and Minnesota is asking for more. I just hope we wouldn't get suckered into giving him another deal in a year and a half.

This would make the KAT trade an all-time head-scratcher though, there's no way you make that deal just to deal Randle away for Grant Williams

Meant Grant. Good catch.

Richards and Miles for Randle?

Finally, to answer this question, even if Randle leaves, I would classify it as trading four years of Towns on the supermax for three years of DDV on a good contract, the chance at the pick, and a much greater likelihood of keeping Naz Reid and Nickiel Alexander Walker. I’m a big KAT fan, and I think he gets unfairly scapegoated, but he still makes a lot of money. Many think the Wolves’ high payroll is unsustainable, regardless of which owner runs the team next summer. I’m 100% with you, I’d prefer seeing Randle traded for better fitting pieces, but he has particular value to this team as an expiring as well.

I think you have hit on something here that can correlate to this hypothetical being discussed here.

I will say it until I'm blue in the face, the real asset in the trade with New York was the DiVincenzo piece. A starter-quality player on a very team-friendly contract. That is extremely important as a team that is in the second apron and will likely continue to flirt with it for years.

This is why I brought up an Atlanta offer pages ago. They have a few of these team-friendly contracts, such as Okongwu and Bogdanovic. I think I would also point to Detroit, with a guy like Isaiah Stewart. You could also look at Portland or Orlando, among others.

I think Minny going after DDV was a great idea but after seeing Randle on your own team do you think other teams especially ones that are not in position to compete now like the Wolves are would look to trade their team friendly deals for Randle at age 30 with a player option? Also Atlanta has Johnson at the 4. Orlando has Paolo. Portland still has Grant and traded multiple picks for Deni. Detroit just paid Harris to be the stop gap vet 4.

What deals do you imagine between these teams that would land Minny with team friendly contracts for Randle?

That is certainly the tricky part. Finding the right fit right now will not be easy. I do think at some point, front offices feel pressure from management to compete and/or to stay competitive. At this point a season ago, I doubt anyone expected Indiana to be in the Pascal Siakam sweepstakes, for example. In June, I doubt anyone thought Donte DiVincenzo would be on the move either.

Thank you everyone who made a suggestion. I still don’t have the right answer. I know it needs to happen, but I don’t know the right combination, especially with the 2nd apron complications. I just want to say to those who wondered about the fit, it is more likely to get worse than better. Also another PG might be needed as DDV has proven he can facilitate, but at the expense of his offensive potential. As a PG he is maybe a 20% 3 point shooter, on a good day.
