Randle for DeRozan?

Post#1 » by slos » Sat Nov 30, 2024 11:23 pm

The complete trade would be Randle for DeRozan and Lyles. Feel free to add fillers and 2nd(s).

Why both? Lots of similarities. They are both trying to win but struggling to make it to the play in zone and figure things out. Their young forwards Murray and McDaniels have taken a step back since they got paired with DeRozan and Randle. A change of scenery might work for everybody involved. Randle fits better with Sabonis than Rudy, DeRozan is a better second scoring option for Minny, Murray not playing that much at PF, McDaniels playing more at PF are also nice ideas.

I don't think it works for Sacramento. Sabonis and Randle have skillsets that overlap too much, and I would hate to see their perimeter defense after this trade. It makes more sense for Minnesota who, IMO, could use another guy who can generate ball movement from the perimeter, but I still don't *love* the fit.

If I'm the Kings and am doing what I can to retain Fox, then I'm not pairing him with Randle on short notice. That seems like a recipe for more issues.

I think this might improve both teams..

For Kings I think they benefit from Murry going back to SF.

MIN needs a back up center, possibly a back up PG, and maybe some back up PF minutes if Randle is out.

They are already flush with good swingman (Ant, NAW, DiVincenzo, McDaniels). DDR would need to get spun to a third team.

I’m not really a fan of this for SAC either. Randle overlaps Sabonis offense, and neither is good defensively.

Agreed. Sabonis and Randle both thrive as a big man who starts at the top of the key or the perimeter, initiates the offense and quick dribble drives if there’s a small opening. Sabonis is better. I really doubt that you’d get the benefit of both players, and maybe not get any additional benefits.

I am at the point of being fine with Randle, but he’s always been a terrible match with Sabonis.
