CHI trades: Zach LaVine, Nikola Vucevic, Torrey Craig
NOP trades: Brandon Ingram, CJ McCollum
Why CHI does it: Ingram's contract is expiring, but he might be a longer term piece for them. CJ's contract is a year less than LaVine's. They save a lot of money and get off LaVine's deal.
Why NOP does it: they get a center who can stretch the court for Zion and they add an elite off-ball shooter. Really it is just shifting some deck chairs on the titanic, but at least these deck chairs fit around the pool.

Forget your contract reasons
Ingram can come in and play the 4 for the rest of the season, maybe he wants to resign. To me he talks like he wants to be on a contender, but that's not the Bulls and they aren't going to overpay an oft injured guy who isn't going to lead them.
Then of course, you've left the Bulls with Jalen Smith as their starting and only center. The Bulls notice this even if you don't. No point to the Bulls taking on CJ, they have Giddey, White, Dosunmu and Ball, they would be much better off with a center than another SG.

I like this. Definitely out of the box; and if these teams can't move these guys for picks/expirings this at least gets them into better situations where they should on paper fit better.

Re: Ingram and McCollum for LaVine and Vucevic
I think if Chicago wants Ingram, it’s to add him to their current group for whatever reason.
This is a decent salary dump though, if there’s a third team sending Chicago salary and an asset instead of the decent player(s)…
It’s early in the year, but NOP needs to get healthy and fix the roster quick. Feels better to just trade Ingram, rest DJM/Zion and let the season play out though.

I'm sure NO would throw in Theis if all Chicago needs is a big body. Agree it would probably make more sense as a 3 teamer to get something other than CJM to Chicago.

Would have to be a 3 team. Bulls don’t want Ingram or McCollum.
I do like the pairing of Lavine and Murray. They are close friends.

Lol bulls would jump on this just to get out of money.
Pelicans have no reason to do this. Bulls cant trade Lavine and Vucevic because no1 wants those contracts.
Pels cant trade Ingram because no1 wants to pay him.
Difference is Pels can just let Ingram walk, and have an expiring Mccollum next year. Much better then tie up their money in 2 one-way non-winning players...
I wouldnt do this even if Chicago attached 1st rounder. 2 unprotected is where i see something happening.

I don't get why you care about this. They can do a follow up trade or sign a center off the scrap bin since they aren't going anywhere. Not every trade needs to solve every problem, but this one solves Chicago's most serious problem, which is still having these long contracts for players that are not in their plans on the books.

I can see this. It would be, IMO, a last gasp effort to put a coherent team around Zion and see if anything is there. In theory, both guys fit EXTREMELY well stylistically, but both are undesirable contracts. My thought is that New Orleans isn't going to extract value out of CJ or Ingram anyway (or not much value) so at least seeing if they have a star player worth building around could be a viable option and if not you just trade the guys with value for value, and at that time Vooch will have 1 season left and LaVine will have two. But contrary to what is in this thread, I saw all of the possible hesitation on New Orleans' end.

Zion Williamson is awful defender.
Vucevic is awful defender.
Lavine is awful defender.
That cant work, and not even to mention that will only stop development of Murphy, Missi and Hawkins.

Re: Ingram and McCollum for LaVine and Vucevic
This is a trade that makes sense for both teams on paper. Vucevic is exactly what you want in a big next to Zion. LaVine is a risk with upside.
For Chicago, they can either re-sign Ingram or let him walk. I think they do the trade because getting out of those contracts without attaching anything is valuable, and they are getting actual value in return, which is nice. McCollum can be flipped for assets too.
