McCallum to Toronto

Post#1 » by Thaddy » Wed Dec 11, 2024 8:42 am

CJ McCallum, 2027 MIL 1st rounder for Brown, Boucher

Missi / Thesis
Zion / Boucher
Ingram / Jones / Brown
Murphy / Hawkins
Murray / Alvarado

Poeltl / Olynyk
Barnes / Mogbo
Barrett / Agbaji / Battle
McCallum / Dick / Walter
Quickely / Mitchell / Shead

This would give the Pelicans room to re-sign Ingram or give him the extension they reportedly wanted to. It also opens up playing time for Murphy, Jones, and their other youth. Brown is a 22 million dollar expiring while Boucher is approximately another 10 million dollar expiring contract. They are both also very useful players that could be re-signed (NOP would have bird rights?) if they try to compete again next year with a healthy roster.

The Raptors get a 1st round pick and the Bucks might be very old in 2027 and there are reports Giannis may want to leave the Bucks for another franchise that will be ready to compete.

Makes no sense for the Pelicans to trade a 1st to dump McCollum, maybe 2 2nds, he's not deadweight, he's just overpaid 6th man and vet leader at this stage of his career...

This is an easy no for Toronto. McCollum will slow down development of Dick and Walter. More importantly, his $30.6 million salary will put the Raptors well over the 1st apron, an untenable position for them, particularly at this stage of their rebuilding process.

Nor should they at this point. Ingram getting hurt again basically sealed the deal on this season. He'll either extend at a reasonable number this summer or not at all. CJ only has one more year left on his contract after this season. Maybe re-evaluate this summer when he's on an expiring contract.

Jarret Allen isn’t winning you anything. Garland won’t show up in the playoffs. Mobley is a glorified dunk man. Mitchell has some experience but is a liability on defense. To me, the Cavs are a treadmill team.

"CJ McCallum for Brown, Boucher, 2027 MIL 1st rounder"

Shouldn't the 1st be on the other side of this equation? Also, it's technically best of NOP/MIL 1st, since ATL now owns the worse of NOP/MIL 2027 1st. But yea, agree with others that it's unlikely Pels spend a 1st to dump CJ. I see ORL and DET as the most likely fits if he's traded.

They way that it's written it looks like Toronto is giving up a 1st to get CJ. If you know the Mil 1st is with NO now then you know that the pick is going the other way but it is written wrong.

Pelicans aren't paying to get off CJ... Makes zero sense for them.
