A good idea, except that Detroit only has $10.2 million in cap room, so they have to send out at least $2.6 million in salary. Sasser, at $2.7 million, works. I'm not sure that the Pistons want to give up Sasser, who seems to be playing okay for them, and use their entire cap space, for a 2nd.

Trade machine shows DET with 30+ M in cap room.

If not, find a 3rd team with a TPE big enough to take Melton.

Per Spotrac, $10.24 million in cap space. https://www.spotrac.com/nba/detroit-pistons/cap/_/year/2024/sort/cap_total

The thread started with a different team, Toronto, taking Melton. This was posed as an alternative.

Yeah, but getting TOR paid for turning Brown into Meltons contract makes the trade harder since GSW is not looking to take on a bunch of money and Miami cannot.

Toronto Out: Boucher, Temple, Fernando
Toronto In: Melton, Payton, 26 Atl 2nd, 26 LAL 2nd

Trying to see how Toronto does this, I get Boucher isn't gest and Temple we all know is just a veteran voice on the bench and in the locker room. I don't see how Toronto wants another 2 undersized guards specially when they have Walter, Shed and Mitchell who've all been good in their limited PT. Unless Toronto wants to send Shed and Walter to the 905 to develop there I don't see them just taking on Payton plus Melton get a couple of picks next year in the later half of the second round.

I am not saying Boucher is going to get Toronto a much better offer than this but I think Toronto is looking to move Brown and/or Boucher for a questionable contract back with a prospect back depending on the contract with said prospect
