McCollum to Detroit
Based on the direction of the Pelicans and the further flexibility Pistons created in waiving Paul Reed, I’ll offer this idea;
To Detroit
-CJ McCollum (2 years, $64 million)
To New Orleans
-Tim Hardaway Jr. (1 year, $16.1 million)
-Wendell Moore (1 year, $2.6 million)
-2028 1st round pick (lottery protected; 2029 & 2030 lottery protected or 2030 2nd)
Why?
-Pistons upgrade backcourt as McCollum can start and his deal expires when Ivey is due extension. They can replace Moore with a VM guy
-Pelicans get out of the tax and create more off-season flexibility if they want to extend Ingram

Re: McCollum to Detroit
I think a couple 2nds would be enough here instead of the 1st with the money savings and expirings coming back.

Re: McCollum to Detroit
I don't have Detroit owing any value beyond taking on the money. I wouldn't even send 2nds. And New Orleans should take it.

Re: McCollum to Detroit
I really don't get it for DET...unless Ivey & Sasser are just not becoming anything.

Re: McCollum to Detroit
CJ is 33 and off to a poor start. I can't see any reason Detroit would burn that much cap on him next season. Plus the backcourt is crowded enough with Cade, Ivey, Sasser, THJ and Beasley.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Re: McCollum to Detroit
Detroit needs to send more money.
Orl gets Ivey
NO gets thj, Moore, Jett
Det gets first (lesser of den/orl) and cj
Normally acquiring CJ seems wrong but Cade needs some guidance.

Re: McCollum to Detroit
Bad move, I have McCollum as a negative contract and Pistons are better off developing their current core and looking for other archetypes (rim protector, high level wings).

Re: McCollum to Detroit
You have to take out the 1st to make this a serious offer. McCollum just isn't worth EC's and a 1st. Also Detroit isn't yet in a position to be trading future 1sts anyway. That's just a terrible idea.
Even without sending any pick(s) over I'm not sure this is a good plan for the Pistons.

Re: McCollum to Detroit
I thought we were well beyond expecting a first rounder for someone like McCollum. Guess not.

Re: McCollum to Detroit
McCollum wouldn't be a bad get for a young team looking to break a playoff drought, but they should absolutely not be trading any first round picks away.

Re: McCollum to Detroit
I don’t get this CJ McCollum having positive value idea…
The most I would offer if I’m Detroit is THJ and Beef Stew for CJ and 2 seconds.

Rest in peace Mamba. There'll never be another Kobe.

Re: McCollum to Detroit
I think unloading McCollum for expirings while cutting over $10M in payroll this season would be a huge win for the Pelicans. For the Pistons, I would pass even without any picks being involved.

Re: McCollum to Detroit
There's no universe where McCollum on that contract, at his age, and with his recent health/availability nets a 1st rounder. I think from a Pistons perspective I wouldn't even do this for expirings as I can see us getting better value for our cap space in the trade market, and McCollum steals minutes from Ivey who is 11 years younger than him and will likely become better at some point in the next 12-18 months.

If Detroit really want to give up the first wouldn’t they be better off targeting sexton ?

Re: McCollum to Detroit
With Langdon in Detroit I don't see the rush in pushing for a play-in just yet. McCollum will stunt the amazing progress Cade has made this season. I would think Detroit's only moves would be to maybe sell their spacing talent for mediocre assets, but honestly probably best to let the full season play out and go into off-season with cap and draft capital
