The CBA changed things drastically IMO. Several Blazers just 6 months ago we had trade discussions on this board about what 1sts they could get and fans of opposing teams were on board depending on the proposals. Now, there are legit salary dump trade proposals with some 2nds mentioned probably for the franchise to save face, and I think the biggest reason for the value drop is not usefulness changing, but what large contracts for mediocre players suddenly means due to the aprons. Before it was, do we want to pay for this mediocre player. Now it is so we want to pay to have this mediocre player be the last big move we can do because we’ll be hamstrung after the trade.

The market isn't buyer-friendly. There just aren't a lot of players that are worth a lot from the teams that are obviously selling right now. Investing in any of Butler, Ingram, Zion, LaVine, Randle, or anyone else at the top of the market has a significant downside that gets priced into the trade offer. By the time you add up the value for the salary to acquire them you might end up worse off, let alone by the time the picks transfer.

It also isn't a buyer's market because the sellers with some actual talent include Chicago and Utah, and they'd rather let an asset grow stale than lose a trade.

I really hope they're talking to UTA about Sexton, POR about Simons, NOLA about McConnell, etc...Simons is especially interesting because his contract and injury history is superior whereas I consider them all of similar on-court value.

I'd happily send either plus a srp or two, and send Cole Anthony along, who only has one more year then a Team Option, and Gary Harris, who is expiring.

People on other boards talk about Ainge as if it's impossible to make a deal, but he's got to do something sometime. Either he does it or move on.

EDIT: I meant to say Sexton...although I like Simons too. Sexton also shows that ferocity that Suggs feeds off of.

Simons has been such trash this year, I almost feel bad handing him over to you guys. Maybe a change of scenery helps. Hopefully. I like the magic and used to like Ant too
