The amount of love DLo is getting in this thread is giving off senior on the last day of High School vibes.
DLo was 4th on the Lakers in usage, Reaves and LeBron are both good enough to carry the playmaking role and now Lakers get a good shooter who won't kill them on defense like Knecht and DLo were.
Lakers could easily close games with LeBron- Reaves- DFS- Rui and Davis

Hitting the 3 doesn’t necessarily equal gravity or pulling defenders to the perimeter and producing spacing. It’s possible that LA did “add” a shooter here, while also making the lane a bit tighter and more congested.
LAL traded a player who is a more dangerous shooter but who couldn't guard himself if he was given directions on what he himself was going to do, for a player who is a good shooter and a good defender.
Yes. But also? DLo Contributes overall to his teammates by providing gravity and allowing them to have a little more room to operate on the court. Yes, you still have LeBron, but now you have LeBron AND tighter lanes for everyone. In general, having LeBron and more open lanes/space to operate is a little better than having defenders closer. Of course, it’s also important to hit those 3’s, but that alone doesn’t create gravity or help a team overall.
Caitlin Cooper wrote a GREAT read about this a couple years ago for 538, where she used a down shooting year for Eric Gordon to show how gravity is different from hitting 3’a, and how both are helpful.

Think you over stating the gravity of d lo. He isn’t an off ball player. You don’t have to chase him from spot to spot. He knocks downs tough iso 3s and spot up 3s.
Lakers will miss his shot creation. But his graivity is replaceable.

This is a good trade for the Lakers. I don’t even like them but people are doing the most saying it’s not. DLO wasn’t contributing nothing. Guards are a dime a dozen these days, they can find one.
I love how fans, media over hype trades and in real life it’s like this. Why I’m not worried about the unmovable contracts my team has. GM is just trash.

I see a lot of folks wanting to mock BK fans for wanting a first. I don't think the difference between three seconds and a late first is really mock worthy.
Seems like a solid move for both sides.

Well you pitched DFS+Sharpe for DLo+Hayes+LAL29FRP(top 3 protected)+LAL28swap.
Many of us stated DFS value at expiring+2-3 SRPs.

Unless the pick was top 28 protected turning into 2 2nds.
Based on various reports over the last day or so, most were initially saying '26 FRP, then earlier today there was one stating '25 FRP. Taking on future $, trading DFS and a high 2nd to move up about 10-12 spots in a '25 draft where you already own 4 1sts sounds like poor value. That was likely Memphis's preference. The Nets were likely asking for a the Memphis '26 pick that can be swapped for the worse of PHX/ORL. Memphis may have been trying to place unreasonable protection on that pick

Re: [Shams] Lakers acquire DFS and Shake Milton for D'lo, Maxwell Lewis, and three seconds.
So this is what happened: Memphis offered a 2025 top-15 protected first along with Kennard + Konchar, but Memphis also asked for Nets' 2025 2nd round pick. So in this trade, Nets are essentially moving up 10 spots as their 2nd round pick is 37th and the Memphis pick is 27th. Nets opted for the Lakers offer instead. They already have four 1st round picks in this draft + their own 2nd round pick. So the Memphis pick would've definitely conveyed this year but its a swap essentially.LightTheBeam wrote:DarkXaero wrote:Again, there was a heavily protected first on the table but Nets opted for multiple 2nds instead. Yeah either way the DFS is worth a 1st round pick narrative was false

Don’t have to be an off ball player to have gravity, not necessarily a guy you have to chase. You just need to be historically dangerous enough, and willing to actually shoot it often enough, that you have defenders even just a step or two, but usually more, further out toward the perimeter when you’re standing there.
They certainly aren’t replacing that with DFS or Shake Milton, nor anyone else currently on the roster. I definitely like DFS for LA. Just pointing out a possible flaw here.

Think we can say DFS wasn’t worth expiring and a first for sure. Memphis rumor says at worst he worth a protected first and 6 million a year for 2 years of cap space.

Re: [Shams] Lakers acquire DFS and Shake Milton for D'lo, Maxwell Lewis, and three seconds.
What are you talking about?
Rumours were MEM offered a top 15 protected 25 pick, which given their record would have conveyed most likely, a pick that would be around 25+?
Considering the fact that BRK already has (4) 25 picks, (2) of which are likely to be in the 20’s already, as would the MEM pick, and given the fact that they were asked to send at least (1) 2nd round pick back (if it was BRK 25’ 2nd, you are talking a top eight? pick and 2nd round, so 12 spots lower?) + asked to take on salary/Konchar\3yrs It is not a surprise that they took LAL offer.
No long-term salary, Dlo expiring, Lewis contract apparently NG, 27/30/31 2nd’s all probably towards the top of the 2nd round or at least 1 or 2 of them?
I think most teams, would have taken the MEM deal easily, however, BRK is uniquely set up in that they have (4) picks already in 25, plus a desire to take on no long-term salary, likely big FA plans next off-season, that made that deal not as appealing to them

So the nets get off of more salary. And get picks for it. Nice.
That's like 17 million bucks ? They have an issue where they need to get under the tax but I'm sure they can and will.
The Lakers add shooting. But some solve a couple of other issues they need a upgrade at PG and a center upgrade to help AD stay at PF. They Lakers have several young guys who's didn't pan out I wonder if any of them can be moved for anything of value.

I’ve seen reports of top 15, top 16, or top 17 protected, and either a 2025 or 2026 1st. But the reports also had Memphis wanting back Brooklyns 2nd this year, so it essentially would’ve been a trade down of a couple spots. Similar to how Toronto traded a first for Thad but got back San Antonio’s 2nd to make it a trade down of 10 or less spots?

If the Nets really want another late 1st rounder in '25, their '25 2nd, plus the 3 LAL 2nds likely get them there without being stuck with Konchar's $.

I think three seconds for DFS was always fair and he makes a lot more sense on LAL than Brooklyn.
But I wouldn’t want my team to announce that they accepted worse value because he already has so many firsts and wouldn’t know how to trade them later in any kind of deal.
Seems like it’s possible it was just a good deal for both sides.

How many second rounders would a team want in exchange for a lottery protected first round pick?
These multiple 2nds for a 1st type of deals tend to happen on draft night when the variables of the pick and the board are known. For context, the Thunder acquired the 26th pick in the 2024 draft from the Knicks for 5 2nds. Nothing wrong with stocking them and using them when needed.
Expanding on this - the Nets essentially traded the opportunity to acquire 2 unprotected future 1st rd picks from the Lakers when they traded Kyrie for a package with one future unprotected future 1st along with Finey-Smith and Dinwiddie. Dinwiddie was eventually traded for Schroeder who was traded for 2 2nds.
So I guess there is your 5 2nds for an unprotected 1st.
In the grand scheme of things this isn't going to make a material difference since the Nets got an historic overpay for Mikal Bridges, and if they get at least 1 1st for Cam Johnson, the return on Durant will end up being 10 first rd picks, at least 8 of which are unprotected. But it's still crazy that they did the Kyrie trade without Durant committing to them long term.

KD was signed long term. They made the move that potentially kept them more competitive in order to keep him happy. It didn't work.
That being said, trying to stay competitive may have helped maximize the return on KD and Bridges, and allowed them to get control of their picks back from Houston at a reasonable price. Immediately going into fire sale mode cuts some negotiating leverage, as you can't play the competing for the playoffs card as a realistic option.

DLo is a player who looks better when he’s not on your team. He gets good stats but doesn’t do much to help his team win.

During the 2024 draft, the Blazers traded the #34 pick to NY for 3 future SPR not too dissimilar to what the Lakers gave up. To move up to #26, the Thunder dealt 5 future SRPs. So the difference between a late FRP and an early SRP is something along the lines of a pair of SRPs. If the Nets' goal was to get a FRP worth of value, they failed.
