Depends where he goes.
If he stayed in California he'd only lose like $8m if he didn't get any extra marketing work being in a bigger market (unliekly).
If he went to Magic or Heat gain money on account of the tax code difference.
I don't think his decision will be financial, it will have to be because of connection to the city and opportunity to play for a championship.
I mean it will absolutely be financial. Interesting why each time someone is coming up on FA people mention how important the extra year is, but for Fox it's he won't lose out on much because of marketing? Sorry, that's simply nuts. The guy that knocked back an extension to go for the supermax isn't going to make a decision that's not financial. Hmmm.
Fox will be at 9 years when he completes his contract with Kings currently.
He can sign a 1 year 30% max with a team and follow up with a 120% increase to start a 4 year deal. This gives Fox $9m total less over 5 seasons if he stays in California, if he went to Orlando then he'd actually get $36m more with this plan than staying with the Kings.
He can also sign a 1 year deal at 30% max with a team and follow up with a 120% increase for 1 year, he can then sign a 35% max with the new team to start a 4 year deal. This gives Fox the exact same amount over 5 years that he would get with the Kings even if staying in California.
Again none of these calculation include increased marketing money in bigger markets.
So yeah, if the decision if financial then Fox could likely leave Sacramento. I think Kings best chance to keep him is emotional connection to the city.
This is all foolishness.
You are assuming perfect health. You are assuming a team being willing to do that while they have other guys to take care of and a cap. You are assuming that Rich Paul would never allow a client to go for this (the most laughable part of all!).
There is no comparison to staying and taking your max where you are at. The CBA was intentionally structured that way so guys would stay with their franchise as the franchise player for most or all of their career. There is a big money loss not doing so and on top of that a whole lot of hoops to jump through and conditions to meet to even come close.
