i'm not trading the 2nds to make this happen. Even if nothing was being traded here, I have my doubts we want to hop right back on the Rozier wagon for another couple years. Not that Simons is bad, it's just you can get a lot of the same production from vastly cheaper talent (see the couple weeks Mann played for us before he got hurt... and basically the whole back half of last season)

Well after securing a high lottery selection this year by missing the playoffs, I think we have to build a roster more insulated to injuries. So if LaMelo were to go down, both Mann and Simons can step up, instead of roster fodder like Micić, Wong, and KJ Simpson.

We don't have to acquire some perfect fit next to LaMelo coming off a basement bottom finish. We are not in position to do that. We will have 6 first round picks that can be attached to Simons or Miles as we wait for that next star to become available.

We do need to get more serious though. Simons fortifies depth at PG, can play alongside either LaMelo or Mann like he did with Dame and McCollum for some far more serious Blazers teams. He upgrades scoring and playmaking, is young, and will be on an expiring contract next season playing for a new one.

Even if you factor his deficiencies on defense, he's an upgrade over Josh Green.

I am not sure CHA would want to pay 25M to Simons when they have Tre Mann for pennies - but as a PDX fan I love this deal.

In my opinion the Hornets should focus on finding defensive specialists or at least ones that aren't terrible... something smaller and they get Thybulle? or something bigger that includes both? I like Mcbridge (Knicks) as a goal... if they decide to be buyers

Simons moves Green to the bench in place of Martin who should be traded this deadline.

Mann (1/2) plays on the bench with Green (2/3).

Next season Simons as an expiring contract can be used as baseline salary for a more permanent upgrade at SG, or can be re-signed as 6th man alongside Mann on the bench, moving Green to the 3 should the Hornets find a different route to more permanently upgrade SG1 without moving Mann.

For instance, say Hornets place high enough in the lottery to secure Dylan Harper or Flagg as a 4 (moving Miles to 3, Miller to 2).

On the flip side, Simons could recover value in a contract year next season. His numbers are way down off his career averages.

At one point Blazers wanted 2 firsts for him. Hard now to find a bidder who could present an offer greater than 31 + 34 in the 2025 draft. Considering 30 is a first round pick, those are like cheaper late first round talents.

Orlando could offer 2 25 1sts but the issue is they don't really have contracts to match that are expiring and I don't see Portland wanting Cole Anthony

If you're willing to attach those mid-late 1st rounders to Cole Anthony and Garry Harris, I would think the Blazers would jump at that.

really? Isn't the idea that Portland wants off of Simons money? Why would they take on an additional year of Cole's money

POR doesn’t want Cole but will take him in a Simons deal if picks are coming with him. Might be possible to re-route him elsewhere.

Ya - I dont want want Cole, but I would take him if we are getting a FRP and a few SRP in a Simons deal.

Simons for Cole, Harris, lower 25 FRP and a few SRP works. PDX could cut Walker here.

Well, these players are downgrades. They want to improve draft position, add draft capital, and get cheaper.

They're getting most of what they want here, but so are the Magic.
