Hypothetically - Minimum number of 1st to make a Beal/Butler Swap work?

Post#1 » by Wigginstime » Fri Jan 3, 2025 8:00 pm

I know PHX doesn't have the picks, but hypothetically, if you were Pat Riley, how many unprotected 1sts would it take to make a Beal/Butler swap work knowing that both Durant and Butler will probably be out of the league by the time those 1sts convey?

Effectively

I voted four. Butler has positive value. Beal has ridiculously negative value. I just can't see anything that gets Miami to doom themselves like that

Beal is the worst contract in the league, perpetually injured and has a NTC.

PHX doesn’t have the assets to move him.

I was hoping and expecting this to be one of the first replies. You did not disappoint. Jroy have it all.

Murray and George are worse contracts but the NTC makes them close.

I said 2, but I mean "average" picks. Something like late lotto, not deep 1st. Beal's deal is just getting shorter, but he's still a negative.

I think the problem is dumping Beal's money, if you could find a team willing to take Beal for x picks where he'd ok the deal, just add 1 or 2 good picks as compensation for Miami. I think the former is probably much more difficult than the latter, so Beal is staying in Phoenix for at least the next couple of seasons.
