Detroit - NOP

Post#1 » by Godaddycurse » Sat Jan 11, 2025 3:11 am

Detroit trade: THJ, Fontecchio
NOP trade: McCollum

Why for Detroit: add a respected veteran for their playoff push and fill void left by Ivey's injury
Why for NOP: duck the tax, mail it in for the year

Yea, that's the trade. Could see Postons adding a 2nd so Pels can say the return was 'and draft capital.' Fontecchio could be a decent bench shooter for Pels next season.

Can't do two shooters for one. I get adding a ball handler because Ivey is out, but this is to much.

Not to mention both players are younger than CJ.

What if the incoming one shooter would have a bigger role/ more minutes than the two outgoing shooters combined? Still would have Beasley, Harris. Seems worth the upgrade from THJ to CJ.

The issue is that Detroit doesn’t have bad matching salary to send out — the closest are THJ and Tobias, and neither is really bad, just neutral or slightly overpaid. Fontecchio is on a solid deal and I wouldn’t want to just throw him in, he is a useful bench shooting 3/4 on a team that lacks other options of that type.

An alternative to match salaries without including Fontecchio is to trade:

- THJ
- Wendell Moore Jr, who I can't imagine will be in the NBA beyond this season
- Bobi Klintman, our fresh second rounder. A lot of Pistons fans have high hopes for Bobi but if we're being realistic his ceiling is a decent bench player and he shouldn't be considered untouchable

I like that second one. Would New Orleans really want to do that, though?

Im probably not in the majority here but Im super high on Klintman and meh on CJ don't play no D. Anytime you have a player that (potentially) combines outside shooting and shotblocking you don't trade that for an old undersized 2 guard. 3pt shooting and shotblocking is the rarest combination of nba talents, you have to take a shot at the potential, theres a reason why Langdon locked him up to the 4 year deal as a second round pick.

While this is true, Langdon is going to have to make a decision here. Make a move to better the team(CJ does that immediately)or just do a move to collect more assets, for capspace.

The Pistons need another ball handler, and CJ does that, whilst also adding another scorer, who just dropped 50.

That second move gives Detroit a known quantity, and the Pels, a shot at Klintman. I'm personally done taking chances on players for the future. Cade is erupting now, so now is the time to start building around him, not sitting on your hands for another 3 years.
