Zion walking in Memphis

Post#1 » by NYG » Sun Jan 12, 2025 2:16 am

Zion Williamson for Brandon Clarke, Marcus Smart and however many picks is agreeable for both sides

Grizzlies: It's all dependent upon Memphis ownership being willing to pay, but JJJ/Zion/Bane/Ja is insane if it hits right. That team has such a high ceiling and long window.

Pelicans: They don't take on any bad money, get some solid fitting vets to reset the culture or for a follow up deal of some kind. I guess it depends on how many picks are agreeable though.

I can't see Memphis doing this
a) their bbq is too good
b) the team is clicking too well right now. Edey > Zion for what they are doing at the moment, so there is no reason to risk the group for that. Zion hasn't shown he can stay on the court and that his hammy can support his frame. You don't roll those dice when you are THAT competitive.

If it´s BC + Smart + this year unprotected pick than sure, why not. Anything more than that it´s a no for me.

It would have to be more for NOP to walk away from him, especially with the contract outs. Just don't see us as that team that will be willing to pay a price that NO would accept. We don't need to take a risky bet on our future with Zion unless it's cheap.

I think including Aldama would be a smart slide of value on top of the 2025 first. Memphis would be losing him in the offseason if they bring in Zion..

Not that that is all NOP would take or Memphis would offer it. Just that he’d make a lot more sense going into RFA on the team with no real starting PF than the team with two of the best PF’s in the league.

I agree I think the offer would be Smart/Luke/Santi/25 1st/27 1st lotto protection for Zion. Clarke could be switched for Luke but NO likely wants expiring money too.

Would think Memphis gets to include BC to keep their books cleaner.. He’s not bad value and NOP can run three bigs with Missi and Aldama for a likely-tanking season next year..

But think that’s the base of an offer that competes with what teams would actually offer. I don’t think his value matches RealGM offers.

Zion cannot shoot - what he would do in Memphis? Smiling on the bench? Being injured after 2 dunks? Zion to Memphis is not about price, it is about common sense and any interest from Memphis, and both are absent.
