Lakers/Heat

Post#1 » by bgrep14 » Mon Jan 13, 2025 7:18 pm

Lakers: Rui, Reaves, Vando, Vincent, Knecht, and a future 1st

Heat: Butler, Jacquez, and Richardson

Lakers get a real 3rd option to go with LeBron and Davis

Heat get a pick and some younger guys with skill to start their rebuild.

First of all, please get his name right - it's Jacquez.

Second of all, if we're trading for a rebuilding package, we shouldn't be giving up our current youth so JJJ would be out.

Third, we wouldn't want all the young talent coming back to be at the same position as our current best player who is, himself, 24 years old. We have no need for two more young shooting guards.

Fourth, we have no interest in Vando. His contract goes a year too long.

Finally, you've offered no information on which first round pick we're getting or what protections are on it.

1. Knecht is a SF not a SG. Jacquez is in there so this isn’t a 4/1. Knecht and Jacquez have likely similar value but Knecht has an extra year of control and is cheaper.

2. The 1st is for taking on Vandos and Vincent not for Butlers value.

3. Robinson is a free agent at year end and Reaves can play pg or sg you can move him pretty easily for a value piece if you want to balance the roster for whatever reason/area you believe is more appropriate or Rozier in another trade.

4. I think you’re going to be very disappointed with Butlers return.

Don't care. We can include Burks to fix the 4 for 1 issue.

2. The 1st is for taking on Vandos and Vincent not for Butlers value.

What difference does that make? We're not taking Vando. If you need to flip Vando with Knecht and the first for an actual player with value to Miami, who's contract ends at the appropriate time, then we can talk.

3. Robinson is a free agent at year end and Reaves can play pg or sg you can move him pretty easily for a value piece if you want to balance the roster for whatever reason/area you believe is more appropriate or Rozier in another trade.

Robinson is not a free agent at the end of the year. I'm not really concerned what you think Miami could or should do after the trade, I'm concerned with making the trade right now. In other words, if you know pieces don't fit, bring in another team or two to get pieces that do fit. I'm not asking for more value, I'm asking you to consider making tweaks to the deal. This isn't a lot to ask.

Take out JJJ and Knecht, move Vando and the first for a shorter contract.

You gotta be kidding me!

4. I think you’re going to be very disappointed with Butlers return.

Actually, o think this is an overpay by the Lakers.

A trade between these two seems very unlikely. Reaves alone is worth more than Jimmy, but assuming Lebron wanted Jimmy at any cost.

Reaves, Rui, Gabe, Vando for Jimmy, Richardson is the trade.

for Miami Reaves is the real prize. And starting around Reaves-Herro-JJJ-Rui-Bam is a nice place to be. If they are dead set on creating cap space long term, Vando isn't going to be impossible to flip down the road. If you get to the point where you have commitment from a star to join, you attach an asset to dump 2 years remaining on Vandos deal next summer.

Lakers would be gutting the team around the big 3.

Lebron/Milton
Christie/Richardson
Jimmy/Knecht
DFS/Reddish
AD/Koloko/Hayes

Who knows with Lebron. But if Miami could get Reaves thats a massive win.

So tired of watching the constant over valuation of LAL assets and the desperate attempts to make LeBron relevant at 40.

In the end I don’t see the Heat making any sort of move at all because matching the money and getting what they want just isn’t out there realistically.

Lakers aren't trading Reaves for Butler.

Miami isn't trading Jacquez with Butler.

I think OP is a Lakers overpay. They wouldn't move Reaves.

I think Lakers can do the deal without Reaves but it is a complex deal and seems unlikely.

Yeah, I tend to agree. I would think Knecht and an unconditional first would need to be included as the rest of the package would be pretty meh. Like, Vando wouldn't be acceptable, but he would need to be included.

I think future first or Knecht is more than enough to dump Vando on a third team. And Knecht, or a future first is enough value for Butler at this point.

So when you take out JJJ and Reaves and try and stack JHS/etc for rest of season contracts, and trade Vando+Knecht to some rebuilding team, I think you can make an actual legal trade? It ends up costing a 2029 first with say top “…” for 2 years and Knecht?

If you do all that though..

Do you suffer through that guard rotation since LBJ/Butler/AD do so much or do you think about trading DFS?

I would hope second rounders could get Vando gone. Keep Knecht. Use him to create space for that big 3, along with Reaves. I think, with Jimmy and Bron, you'd have enough playmaking that you don't need a traditional point guard. Get Alec Burks in the trade with Miami, use DFS, Hayes, and whomever else you want off the bench, and try and make a run.

Basically this. Otherwise it has the makings of a deal the Lakers do.

Can’t see a team taking on Vando’s deal cheaply until he is back at least and you see him playing.. serious injuries for a guy that’s game is built off hustle..

Fwiw, Vando is expected to make an on court appearance within the next 2 weeks.

So I think he'll at least show where he's at by deadline

I doubt that is enough time to shake his negative value, but could lessen it some. Likely only a handful of games and limited minutes before the deadline.
