Mavs/Bulls

Post#1 » by Astaluego » Wed Jan 15, 2025 9:28 pm

MAVS
In:J.Smith/P.Williams
Out:Maxi/Gafford/MAVS 25/Morris

Lively/Smith/Powell
PJ/Williams/O-Max
Klay/Marshall
KI/Grimes/Hardy
Luka/SD/Exum

Mavs improve their depth, with 2 young guys who fit Luka's timeline

BULLS
In: Gafford/Maxi/Mavs25/Morris
Out: Williams/Smith

Bulls get FRP, improve center position and eliminate money for 2026 offseason(
Morris would be immediately cut, I guess)

thoughts??
The Bulls could surely get an extra (highly protected) FRP if they decide to trade Gaff or just keep him long term.

I mean this idea has been kicked around a bit. I just think Dallas doesn't get better on the court so I hate spending a first on just getting younger and hoping Williams improves and Smith can be retained.

Others think Smith is a clear upgrade on Kleber on the court so they may feel differently, but Maxi's impact is still there night after night even while contributing little on offense.

I think it needs to be Exum and not Morris, but maybe Dallas has enough room under the apron?

I think the Bulls fans here typically hate Gafford back. But I think this is a great move for them. Keep a stopgap starting center in case they trade Vuc and get a first, while clearing the long term salary they should be at least questioning..

Dallas should do it, I think Jalen’s defense makes losing Gafford’s offense okay. And Patrick is a long shot, but some of us still believe..

That kind of leaves the Bulls in tank mode for a couple of years with Gafford and Kleber
I don't see them getting a FRP for Smith and Williams. DAL wants to start Williams?
and they get REALLY older in order to get that one pick, who are they drafting who is worth that?
Are they still trying to trade Vucevic and Lavine? what are they getting?

White Dosunmu THT Duarte
Giddey Ball Carter
Vucevic Gafford
Lavine Buzellis Terry
Kleber Phillips Morris

They're very short on future there; Buzellis, Phillips, maybe White, Giddey and Dosunmu

they like the pick and no doubt end up keeping their own but that's a long rebuild with Ball and Morris the only expirings almost no cap space next summer

No

I think most of the ideas about Chicago do suggest a 1-2 year rebuild. Most teams need a bottom out season (or more) in order to grab the guy that can actually lead a team to real wins. Chicago does have a lot of pieces the help that guy, but they don’t have that guy.

But you could always flip some salary and Dallas’ first to NOP for Ingram and continue pushing with the current group.
