Hornets/Bulls. Ball brothers reunion

Post#1 » by Astaluego » Fri Jan 17, 2025 2:44 pm

HORNETS
In:Lonzo/Carter
Out:Micic/Okogie/Martín/#34

Lamelo/Lonzo/Carter
Lonzo/Mann/Smith
Miller/Green
Bridges/Salaun/Williams
M.Williams/Diabate

They use one of their SRPs (they have too many) and some cap space, to get Lonzo's bird rights and bring him back in the summer. Lonzo, in addition to being Lamelo's older brother, is a perfect fit on the court...providing defense, experience and a high basketball IQ...both starting with him, like leading the bench with Tren Mann or Nick Smith

BULLS
In:Micic/Okogie/Martín/#34
Out:Lonzo/Carter

They get a high SRP and clear Carter's contract next year

Grab a Bulls Ball and you Micic be Okogie

For the trade: Can OP talk a bit about how the other players fit into the whole bit? Clearing Carter is seen as a benefit, but you are adding non EC's so the only money coming off is Ball for the Hornets who you assume want to keep him.

Ball just signs there in the offseason if there is interest. The Brothers will let it be known if they want to join up through the grapevine. No reason to waste a 2nd, don't think Bird rights are really going to be needed, no reason to eat carter either.

Truth. And the Hornets will have the MLE.

I don't see a cap space team spending above MLE for Lonzo coming off his long injury recovery with experimental treatment. Many of us in Charlotte feel a reunion is imminent, and the vehicle of transfer is in place.

Either no 2nd, or we leave off the Okogie/Carter swap.

Martin, Micic, future 2nd is fine for Lonzo. If Chicago doesn't want to do that, we'll just throw Lonzo a 2-year deal in the offseason or something

The caution here is Lonzo could crank up our win total and diminish draft position. On the Chicago side, they lose some flexibility between tanking to keep their pick vs. deadline additions that put them in a better position to reach the playoffs and convey their pick to the Spurs outside the lottery. The protections loosen from 1-10 this year to 1-8 next year and the year after. Meanwhile, who knows if there's a taker for Vucevic. Dumping Vuc could prompt the Bulls to cut loose Lonzo and pick the tank lane. Hawks jumped from 10 to 1 in the lottery. That was Risacher but this is Cooper Flagg. Improbable, but possible.

the chances at a top 3 pick are pretty flat anywhere from picks 1-7. We're 9-28 with a brutal February+March schedule ... if Lonzo is going to be that much of a difference maker, he won't be available for a 2nd.

You can't discount the contributions of Micić to the 9-28 position. Major tank commander. If we move or cut Micić, then KJ Simpson takes the baton. All we have to do is wait for the summer, offer the MLE and wash the blood off our hands.

No and because it's all one sided for CHA.

First, the Bulls swap 2 of their guard glut for 2 and take a big step down in quality. Is Micic or even Okogie on their way out the door supposed to play over Giddey, White, Lavine, Dosunmu? They get SF Martin with no reason to play him for the 40 games he's around over Buzellis and Phillips who are staying.

Less important for the Bulls to move Carter than to lose Ball and give up his Bird rights. They're much better off resigning Lonzo than after his contract expires than getting Martin, Right now the Bulls have a pretty full roster so that #34 pick would look like he's straight to the G League where the Bulls already have guys developing
