DET - SAC (Fox)

Post#1 » by bpcox05 » Sat Jan 18, 2025 3:35 pm

—————————

DET GETS: De’Aaron Fox, Jordan McLaughlin, & Doug McDermott
DET GIVES: Isaiah Stewart, Ausar Thompson, Ron Holland, Bobi Klintman, & Future DET 1st (Top 4 protected - 2 years after pick conveys to MIN)
WHY FOR DET? The Pistons are currently 8th in the west and 1 game above .500. With Cunningham looking like a star, they make a move to bring in a star PG who just turned 27 less than a month ago. When Ivey is back healthy, this gives them a very talented & balanced core of Fox, Ivey, Cunningham, Harris, & Duren.

PG - Fox / Sasser / McLaughlin
SG - Ivey (injured) / Beasley / Moore
SF - Cunningham / Hardaway / McDermott
PF - Harris / Fontecchio
C - Duren / Reed

—————————

SAC Gets: Isaiah Stewart, Ausar Thompson, Ron Holland, Bobi Klintman, & Future DET 1st (Top 4 protected - 2 years after pick conveys to MIN)
SAC Gives: De’Aaron Fox, Jordan McLaughlin, & Doug McDermott
Why for SAC? If the Kings FO think the writing is on the wall in that Fox will want out of SAC, they move him for a few young pieces to help them retool. Stewart gives them a solid defensive PF/C who can also share the floor with Sabonis due to his shooting. Thompson gives them a defensive ace at the wing/forward spot, and considering how athletic he is, he has a chance of being a star if he can develop offensively. Holland is somewhat similar to Thompson but I don’t have him as having as high of a ceiling. If he can develop offensively, he could be a very valuable two way wing with good length & athleticism. Klintman gives them another young PF with good size & athleticism who could develop into a solid fit next to Sabonis. On top of all that, they get a lightly protected future 1st to add to their asset pool.

PG - Monk / Carter
SG - Ellis / Holland / Huerter / Jones
SF - DeRozan / Thompson / Crowder
PF - Murray / Lyles / Klintman
C - Sabonis / Stewart / Len

Talented, yes. Balanced when you have 3 guards who functions best with ball in their hands? naw

This is beyond insulting.

Where is the value for Fox here?

The Kings aren’t trading a top 15-20 player in the
NBA for pocket change (wrong Thompson brother - the good one plays for HOU) and a little “roster balance”. Never mind that you are three number one picks light and they need to be at least half unprotected.

This is a non starter from go.

And Fox isn’t being traded at the deadline.

The value isn't there for Sacramento. I also don't love the fit with Fox and Cade.

Agree Cunningham is looking like a star. A star PG with counting stats of 24/9/6 to be precise, and once Ivey returns, a high-potential combo guard who runs the bench unit when our star PG Cunningham sits

I really like Fox, but the last thing DET should do is bring in a second star PG, even if we are arguably underpaying in this trade
In a no-win argument, the first poster to Let It Go will at least retain some peace of mind

Yeah, this makes no sense. Stacking two star players at the same position and giving up all your assets to do so? Not even getting into value, the direction is a non-starter.

Like others have said, not enough value for the Kings and not a good fit for the Pistons.

Pistons need Holland and Thompson to improve their shooting. Is there anyway we can trade for that?

Not sure you can trade for patience. :-P I believe in their progress, though

Yea I don't think Detroit is a fit for Fox. I can't imagine wanting to pair him with Cade.

Recipe seems pretty simple around Cade. Get defenders/floor spacers and the guy will show out.

Thompson/Hollard are good long term guys, I'd be focused on improving THJ/Beasley/Tobias long term.

To be honest I'm high on Holland. If our offer is this or Reed Sheppard/Jabari, It's not even close to me. This pistons deal blows it out of the water. But that's all moot because I agree Fox doesn't fit with Cade and wouldn't be the right target.

Yeah I think this one is doa.

Fox with Cade doesn’t feel like an additive combination at all- they’d pretty much just have to take turns. And I can’t imagine the Kings accepting an offer like this for Fox- they’d want a blue chip asset.
