My immediate Doug Christie thoughts are I loved this guy on those great Kings teams of the early 00's. Just a perfect SG for that team. And then my little Mavs signed him and I knew he was past his prime but was sure he would still be able to contribute something. And he lasted like 7 games of just horrible basketball.

But seems like a guy with real basketball intelligence so I'm cool with him getting a shot.

I think he can be a good coach. Doug knows the game. He knows players too. Good temperament. Lots to like.

How well the front office operates and/or how bad the locker room damage is are the big swing factors IMO.

I clicked on this expecting an epic bump from like 2002. Disappointed.

I was really hoping for Christie. I was expecting triano which i think would have been a disaster with no upside.

Either Christie sucks and we hire a real coach, or he blows it away and we found a young coach of the future. My money's on the former, but it's better than a retread

I think many of us local fans really like Doug. He's done a lot of broadcasting/radio. Good years here as a player.

But can he do well as a coach? Can he do well with this roster? I have no idea.

If every team in the NBA fired their coaches, would Doug even get an interview with someone else?

But most of us like him as a person here.

I've been surprised not to hear more of the old Christie jokes. Back in the day, there was a running joke that if your friend was under the thumb of his girl then you'd get him a Doug Christie jersey to let him know he was whipped.

Clearly some kind of PR expert has spoken to them, because I didn't even realise he was on the Kings staff.

That seems like a guy who doesn't take himself to seriously, low ego.

I agree with a lot of your takes, and to be honest, you might be right about this too. But I always felt Christie, YES: HAD a good basketball brain. But I wonder if he was a strong enough LEADER to lead them PAST the Lakers, their bogey team, or other West powerhouses? But I 100% understand the "hometown boy" angle, and Kings fans seem to love him, so give it a shot, "over other retreads", as mentioned...

Bump.

He seems to be going pretty good. Lol.

This guy has always had a winning mindset and he understands the game.

His ingame decision making has been really good.
As I mentioned on the Kings board he is playing the guys a lot of minutes and reducing practise time. It's working right now, but I want to see it over the long haul.
But just to see some defensive tweaks, line-up changes and letting the players play with freedom is refreshing. I mean Keegan even smiled last game (I swear to god, it's clearly on tape). When was the last time that happened?
