Suns/Wiz/Hornets squeezing the Turnip
Suns trade: Nurkic/25 CLE 1st
Suns get" JV/Martin/Worst 2 25 2nds of GSW/PHX/DET
Wizards trade: JV/Davis/25 GSW 2nd/25 PHX 2nd/25 DET 2nd
Wizards get: Nurkic/25 CLE 1st
Hornets trade: Martin
Hornets get: Davis/best of 25 GSW/PHX/DET 2nd
So the main idea is for the Suns to use the salary difference between Nurkic and JV to pick up another player. Martin feels about right in terms of role/cost. They also get back 2 mid 2nds to look to use on older college players this summer for cheap depth.
Wizards take on less than $10M in salary next year and turn 3 2nds into a first. Seems better than trading JV for more 2nds or worse keeping him.
Hornets get a 2nd out of Martin. Found money. Also save a little $$ this year.

Washington fans have wanted a first, so maybe they feel it’s worth consolidating. I think it’s one second too much when you add in the Jonas/Nurk swap. That’s minor I know.
Love it for the other two teams.

Jay identifies value problem, GoDaddy immediately fixes it. Sometimes this place is just great. And before anyone argues with godaddy's who gets which 2nd, they are currently slotted b2b2b so the difference is very very slim.

Yeah, pick 45 doesn’t feel like it should kill any big deal, and Phx definitely could use the mid 2nd more than Washington.. So feel like it’s a personal preference type more than an issue.

I hope the Suns look for more athletic pieces but Val can shoot so he offers something different.

Appreciate the insight. I thought with Richards filling the athletic center role, the bigger, more polished guy to pair with him might work? The other part I liked was his salary being small enough to bring in one more player who might could steal a few minutes.
But if a better fitting center making under Nurkic money is gettable for one of the 1sts, they should definitely do that instead. Martin is textbook JAG.

It makes them better but by how much? Idk. Probably better than my POR/LAL deal

Re: Suns/Wiz/Hornets squeezing the Turnip
I'd rather just trade for JV. We could give our CHA or NOLA 2nd which is currently only a few slots behind the CLE 1st, and don't need Washington to eat Nurkic or send a bunch of other 2nds

I don't get the point of that for Charlotte and I'm not sure Washington wants a 4th 2nd as opposed to a first, but in terms of simplicity you certainly have an edge there. In my version the value for Washington is in the consolidation, more than more accumulation.

the point is Charlotte isn't (or shouldn't be) wasting a SIXTH year of LaMelo Ball's career, and badly needs a quality big that you can throw the ball to and create shots on the 2nd unit and for when Mark misses time. We should have signed Valanciunas last summer (and could comfortably have offered a higher dollar amount) but that's in the past. I'm not sweating a mid-30s pick + Martin or Micic.
I don't see the 2nd round thing as an issue, as Washington can always defer a couple of those later 2nds. if they want to swap their latest current pick for the 2026 DEN 2nd, i'd oblige

a player like JV isn't the difference between wasting a year of Ball or not, but again your deal is simpler and if Washington will take what I agree is fine value, its a better deal.

Re: Suns/Wiz/Hornets squeezing the Turnip
I think original offer is 1 pick too heavy. Cavs pick is likely one of the last in the 1st round. WAS can prob find a way to package 2-2nds and move up close enough to that range while still keeping a 2nd. Feels like WAS is giving up a lot along w the better and cheaper player for a very late 1st.

Re: Suns/Wiz/Hornets squeezing the Turnip
From the Wizards' perspective, if that Cavs pick could be reasonably projected at #18 or so, this would be interesting. But since it's looking like it'll be the #29 pick, I'd pass.
This trade amounts to trading the #44, #45, and #46 pick plus $13M in cap flexibility for the #29 pick. I'm not sure I'd trade the #44, #45 and #46 pick straight up for #29. I certainly wouldn't do it while giving up the better, cheaper player.

Re: Suns/Wiz/Hornets squeezing the Turnip
I'm definitely interested in the Wizards turning their glut of 2nds and mediocre rotation players into a first, but this seems a bit light on the return. Would Nurkic want to play the good vet role that JV has? Otherwise they're giving up 3 picks to slightly move up in the draft and taking on a more expensive player that doesn't want to be there.
I don't absolutely hate it because the Wizards can't realistically make all of these 2nd round selections, but I certainly don't love it either.

Re: Suns/Wiz/Hornets squeezing the Turnip
I guess I don't believe you can turn 3 mid 2nds in the same draft into a late 1st in that draft. And I have Washington preferring the one first over the 3 2nds and so taking on $8M in salary next year(this year doesn't matter as they aren't a tax team) was a really small price to pay.
But it seems alas not...

he alone is not, but Charlotte has a few holes to fill and would take the offseason to fill the others using cap space/MLE, our lotto pick, and our other high 2nd, potentially a future pick
