Why for Toronto?

Move 2 expiring contracts that will help a playoff team to take a look at some young pieces. Miller and Minott aren't getting much burn in Minny. Also gives them some much needed veteran leadership in Connelly and get a 2rp for eating the money.

Why for Minny?

They get out of the last year on Connelly's contract. Davion has been serviceable and will be able to take up those minutes. Boucher has been playing extremely well and would be much more impactful than the 2 youngsters for a playoff push.

This plus, Mike Conley is not available. The Wolves made him a promise that they will not trade him if he signed at a discounted rate. Mike is Ant’s mentor, close to Rudy, and a team leader. I doubt we break that promise, especially in year 1.

Lots of reasons this won’t work for MIN.

First, MIN legally can’t aggregate salaries, or take back more money in trade because of the apron. More money is especially expensive to MIN, so far above the lux. With the exception of Rob Dillingham, Mike Conley is the only PG on the roster. They’ve tried playing DiVincenzo, but he is injured and out for a long time. After a slow start, Mike has improved over the last ten games (3P 47.1%, 0.8 TOV). He’s been the leader of the team, he’s close to Ant, and knows how to feed Gobert. When he signed his last extension, he said he didn’t want to move his family again, and Tim Connelly told him he wouldn’t trade him without his consent

I dont see them getting a first for Boucher. They have done well developing Ochai Abaji, I could see one of them having a similar trajectory on the Raps if given minutes and they are in some dire need for size.

His defense at this point is def better than Connelly. HE has played similar minutes and put up close offensive numbers.

The trade checkers are unreliable at best with respect to 2nd apron rules. I can say with a high level of certainty that the deal is nowhere close to legal even if the Wolves would be interested (which they would not be).

The targets for TOR make sense, particularly Leonard

For MIN, I don't think the numbers can work with Conley, and as some MIN fans have said, they'll need Conley. I agree; from the MIN games I see, when Conley is looking old, they look a lot worse. If I am MIN, I keep him and hope you get one good play-off run.

Davion is a decent target for MI. He is sneakily effective, great POA defence, good assist/TO ratio, and doesn't make a lot of mistakes. A poor man's Pat Bev with a much better attitude. For what it is worth, TOR is 8-12 with Mitchell starting, and 5-20 with anyone else, so TOR may just want to give him up to solidify the tank.

But because MIN can't aggregate, it would have to be Davion for Conley, and as I said above, I don't think MIN should do that.

I see Boucher and Davion Mitchell dangled around a lot as if they had clear positive value. Maybe Boucher has some marginal value, Davion Mitchell is only valuable using up minutes in a tank team, I wouldn't want him on a good team at all.
