And I don’t disagree that Cam J isn’t the all in type of move the Rockets need, nor necessarily the specific player even on the high level role guy spectrum you should chase, but at this cost it would seem like a no brainer, he’s a guy who should command top 12 pick value this June and maybe as high as 5.

But regardless, I’m just surprised you hate the value and think he’s dime a dozen worthless basically, standalone.

My player valuations are my own. I often have different opinions of the mainstream, but whatever, that is the point of a forum.

I have been fairly consistent in view of Cam Johnsons value, I said 2 late firsts or 1 mid first, from some team. The thought of someone paying a top 5 pick for him is outrageous (to me). But who knows, teams do dumb things.

Something like a top rookie or two from this upcoming draft, a top 10 pick from the ‘26 draft; a traded for star such as a Fox or Jamal Murray, maybe even Giannis or Booker; some high level role guy FA’s or absorption trade guys; one of the trio of the Cams and Clax left; and one guy like Clowney looking like a good starter; while still having multiple high value future 1sts left.

I think you underestimate how long it takes to assemble a team, especially a good one.

I don't see the fit for Houston as the expense of real value. I'd also concerned about his defense given our roster. I wouldn't do the OP, unless he we're getting re-routed to a 3rd team for a different return for Houston (lets say KD for example).

Cam is effectively exactly what we'd want from Jabari offensively, but smaller and less physical defensively... and Jabari is already questionably small and soft, but he's only 21 and has room to further grow into his frame. Cam is who he is at 27.

Houston's identity is physicality, everyone save for Jalen in our rotation is strong for their position. It's especially important given our lack of shot blocking / rim protection. Amen, Tari and Brooks at the wing are not players you can easily drive through. Cam Johnson is, and he'd have to be taking one of their minutes on the wing. For this reason, in all earnest, I'd prefer Dillon over Cam for this team.

I get this thought. I respect that. Out of curiosity, what rank are the Rockets in 3PT% and 3PTs made? This might not make any sense if you are already top 15 in both.

Well this is also where we mainly agree. For me personally, I wouldn’t call it outrageous to trade the 5th overall for him if it’s a strong team with someone else’s pick, but yeah it would be a stretch. And yeah, can also see the something dumb type of move from a team like Sacto, or even Philly if they keep their pick.

I mainly do not underestimate it, and as a fan it has me somewhat nervous. But I just think a star(s) who’s mainly worth paying the asset cost for will eventually(sooner rather then later) force their way out with Brooklyn atop their list.

Lillard was a guy recently, Mitchell almost was, the former being viewed not worth the price given his age and contract, the latter deciding he was happy in Cleveland to see it through.

Soon it might be Giannis, Fox, or maybe Morant, a surprise guy like Jaylen Brown; or maybe Booker is sent to you guys and KD comes with another one of those guys for his swan song. And hopefully that is with a quickly panning out Flagg, or Harper, maybe Tre Johnson, etc.

But yeah, absolutely not denying the very real possibility even if the Nets land a couple top prospects, and even if those guys look like they’re going to be 10 year studs, it doesn’t mean Brooklyn will have a good record or make the playoffs in the 26-27 season.
