Rounding out the Kings with Utah and Dallas

Post#1 » by LightTheBeam » Mon Feb 3, 2025 6:01 am

Kings trade: Demar, Colby Jones, Alex Len, Spurs 27 1st, 2 2nds
Kings get: PJ Washington, John Collins

Why for Sac? Address the front court finally. They provide enough salary here to match Collins, and then use the 16+ million TPE they created for PJ Washington.
Monk - LaVine - Keegan - Washington - Sabonis
Carter - Keon - Lyles - Collins

Dallas trades: PJ, Powell, Exum
Dallas receives: Demar, Spurs 27 1st

Why for Dallas? This is about to be one of the best defensive teams we've seen in a long long time, but they need to add some offense. They clearly want to grind wins out, and Demar can help lighten the scoring load. Add another 1st so that they can flip Klay/Demar and picks for another star at some point.
Kyrie - Klay - Demar - AD - Lively
Dinwiddie - Grimes - Christie - Naji - Gafford

Utah out: Collins
Utah in: Exum, Powell, Colby Jones, Alex Len, 2 2nds

My assumption here is Utah loops in Detroit and sends 1 of those 2nds for them to take on Len/Exum. I just don't want to over complicate this, but I also know a 4 for 1 is tricky. They save a crap load of money, tank harder for Flagg, and get a 2nd or 2 in the process.

Pick Washington or Collins. No need for both

That’s going to be too hard for Utah because they would have to cut young players. Probably a pass for two seconds.

I would simplify, although I like the idea...
something like that....?

PJ Washington/K.Anderson to KINGS

DDR(Hornets FRP?)/Crowder to MAVS

Grimes/Powell to WARRIORS

Ya as I said I'd imagine flipping 2 of these guys just didn't want to get too complicated. There was a thread last week of a Minnesota fan offering a 2nd for Garza. Maybe colby + 2nd to a young team. Lots of options

Why couldn't we use both? I want Keegan back as a full time 3.

Don't think the Kings should dig the grave any deeper. They should see what they have with LaVine, and if they have any sense trade everything that isn't nailed to the floor in the offseason when it is inevitably bad.

Why is Dallas one of the best defensive teams we've seen in a long time? What about their roster would make one think that?

AD is great, but he's one player and he doesn't always play a ton of games, Lively is solid, he also doesn't play a lot of games. Cavs are running the double big lineup with similar players, they aren't top 5. Kyrie is small, Klay is old. The bench is okay defensively, Marshall is solid but not a whole lot else special going on.

The thought that they are focused on D and would trade for DD because they're penciled in to be SO elite doesn't make sense, this should not be assumed. Offensively, Replacing Luka with AD will do a number to their spacing, you can't just expect to also throw DD into a starting lineup with AD and Lively or Gafford and for it to be cool.

I think the Mavs need someone who spaces the court better (especially if the idea is to go with 2 bigs) and in no way would I move PJ (he is the heart of the team and the best perimeter defender)..
I also see similarities with the construction of the CAVS..
AD/Lively/Gafford vs Mobley/Allen with Washington/Wade as the big 3 or backup to any of the bigs... The Mavs need offensive talent to mitigate part of the huge offensive/playmaking loss, taking into account not hurting the space or the defense (new team identity)...thinking of C.White (Bulls)...

For the Kings I like PJ's target, but I doubt he will be available, especially being conference rivals and with the Mavs' urgency to win and although Collins fits the role well, I think it is time to worry about the defense especially the front court (Collins is a good rebounder, but a terrible defender, slow on his feet and arms T-Rex), I don't think they are going to change DDR so early either, my priority target would be Yabusele.. Maybe an "overpayment" that the 76ers cannot refuse in their situation..??? Hornets FRP+ Crowder for Yabusele?

They picked their direction. And honestly i don't blame them, we've been bad for 20 years and sabonis is having an all NBA season. And you should look at the splits between monk/fox for january when weve went on this mini run (hint: monk was better) They want to make the playoffs and in theory lavine adds shooting, while being much better off ball than de'aaron.

At this point if we choose to stand pat, then the trade makes absolutely zero sense. Only way you can justify lavine coming back is to actually address the roster issues we haven't for years.
