Detroit / Golden State / Miami / Phoenix (Crazy Enough To Work)

Post#1 » by Karmaloop » Wed Feb 5, 2025 3:21 am

NOTE: This deal would have to be done on February 6th since Schroder can't be combined until then.

Detroit Pistons Trade:
Cash ($2.2M)

Detroit Pistons Receive:
PG Dennis Schroder
'25 SRP (least favorable of PHI/DEN)
'25 SRP (from Miami)

Golden State Warriors Trade:
SG Gary Payton II
SF Jonathan Kuminga
SF Andrew Wiggins
SF Kyle Anderson
'26 FRP (Unprotected)
'28 FRP (Top 4 Protected, Otherwise 2030 SRP and least favorable of MIN/GSW 2031 SRP)

Golden State Warriors Receive:
SG Alec Burks
SG Josh Richardson
SF Kevin Durant
PF Kevin Love
Cash ($1.1M)

Miami Heat Trade:
SG Alec Burks
SG Josh Richardson
SF Jimmy Butler
PF Kevin Love

Miami Heat Receive:
SG Gary Payton II
SF Jonathan Kuminga
SF Andrew Wiggins
SF Kyle Anderson
Cash ($1.1M)

Phoenix Suns Trade:
SF Kevin Durant

Phoenix Suns Receive:
SF Jimmy Butler
'26 FRP (Unprotected)
'28 FRP (Top 4 Protected, Otherwise 2030 SRP and least favorable of MIN/GSW 2031 SRP)

WHY IT COULD WORK FOR THE PISTONS?

They rent out their last bit of cap space for a few more picks, and continue to add more veteran presence to their roster.

WHY IT COULD WORK FOR THE WARRIORS?

They gamble away the future, but land Kevin Durant as one last going away party for Steph Curry.

WHY IT COULD WORK FOR THE HEAT?

The Heat get something in return for Jimmy Butler, and take a gamble that a bigger role will unlock a new level for Kuminga.

WHY IT COULD WORK FOR THE SUNS?

Other than draft picks, the Suns lack flexibility and they downgrade and gain more pick flexibility.

I don't see any reason they'd want to trade for Butler if KD is outgoing. Either you're trying to win it all or you're trading KD to get assets. To me Butler to Phoenix is dead, and if they're trading KD to the Warriors they're probably better off dealing with Golden State directly.

But hey, this could age poorly. We'll see.

And sure, we'd take Schroeder for cash.

Miami obviously had to say yes because we get Kuminga, but I feel like he should be going to Phoenix instead.

Yeah, if Butler is headed to Phoenix and Durant is leaving Phoenix, the only logical conclusion is Phoenix has found a taker for Beal -- and it might be Miami.

Miami taking him isn't a logical conclusion.

This is probably about the type of deal the Pistons should go for, yeah. Though I'd rather get Lonzo if we can.

It has aged poorly. It appears they are using KD trade as a way to get Butler per Stein and Fischer.

Still makes no sense.
