Jalen Green, Reed Sheppard, Cam Whitmore and 3 Suns 1sts returned for Devin Booker?

That's a lot of young talent and picks to rebuild.

Are you be
king genuine in your assessment here or are you being sarcastic man? I have to ask due to the natural propensity of a teams' fans to overvalue their own players. Now when looking at a potential Booker to Houston trade, I'm looking at the value as:

Booker's trade value
The consensus has been that Booker should return a package of ( at minimum) 2 good/ promising young players) Salary Fillers (for matching purposes)/ and 3 1sts. So looking at that as his percieved market value, I look at a reasonable ( not rich but reasonable) return something along these lines:

1st Criteria (Young player package)
1- J Green.
A Young player with Star potential (At least in my estimation).
2- PHX 3 1sts back.
3- Whitmore.
A young athletic exciting player with potential high upside.
So that's two young athletic good players to meet the first two criteria.

2nd criteria (The firsts)
Our 3 1sts back. This is big to correct our owner's compulsively egregious moves to destroy our future. These picks represent actual pathways to a functional and successful rebuild.

3rd Criteria ( Salary fillers for matching purposes)
Jock Landale and **Reed Sheppard. Even though Sheppard was a high pick, he's not really yet shown anything to establish legitimate value. And it could be argued he's riding a thin margin towards being a potential bust. And at 10 million, his production just doesn't validate his contract value.

This factor would make his value only slightly better than neutral. Which is why he's slotted into the salary filler tier and not in the first criteria (exciting young player) tier allowing Whitmore to not be a necessary value inclusion. Not being excluded for Sheppard due his lack of established value ( to date). Overall,
this package meets the threshold of the criteria value for Booker without either being optimal or underwhelming. Which is where most trades in end settling at anyways the majority of the time :dontknow:
Nope, serious, would think like two firsts or maybe Jabari instead of Whitmore or something along those lines

Who is it that you think your bidding against?
If book was available a ton of teams are running to their phones. Even if PHX can't get their picks back there will be other juicy offers

And you understand that only makes our picks more valuable right?

In the off season, those teams will have more time to think and assess and are not desperate or under pressure..

I agree, and I would mention, this isn’t a KD-specific thing. Most players retain most of their trade value right up to their penultimate trade deadline. It certainly must have something to do with getting twice as many play off runs with the player on the roster, but I think there is also the perception of players on expirings as “rentals,” and teams don’t want to pay as much for rentals. I’m not sure this should be the final word, because besides being a rental, the player often brings their Bird rights, which these days, are more valuable than ever.

But I agree with your point. Durant had more value a few weeks ago than he will this summer.
