He is not getting over the MLE unless it's from the Jazz. Some teams won't even look at him as a MLE guy. That's how prohibitive the new CBA is.

It's a bad year for free agents. But if there was more money out there, I could see him getting a contract. Tobias got 2/52. What does he do better than Collins? Collins is also 5 years younger and bigger.

Tobias was coming off a 17/6 season as the third best player on a PO team vs 18/8 on a 14/44 Utah Jazz team that's dead last in the WC. Granted Collins is shooting the ball at a better clip.
Tobias is a much, much better defender, albeit in slightly different positions. That isn't just last season he was better, but historically better. Tobias plays 70 games per season whereas JC has done that twice in his career. He also got to 68 one season so let's give him that too. But still, he's missed 21 games so far this season. Think Tobias has missed 2 games this season.

I really like Collins, but he was, and still is, a but low target for anyone and I don't think he lands more than the MLE this off season, or next unless its from the team that he is on.

I think he's fallen into that overpaid/now underrated spot...but he's not going to get $25x4...he'd be smart to opt in and see what he can generate by TD or next summer FA.

Good player...maybe the best lob finisher in the league.

For Collins, you'd probably like him a lot more if he was somewhere in the neighborhood of 4/75. He should probably opt out for that, because that would get him to his early 30's, and a lot of his game revolves around him finishing as a lob threat. He's not a volume 3 point shooter, although he can knock them down if open. He's not going to give you any playmaking. Defense is subpar. He's really not much more than Geurschon Yabusele.

if he opts out is because the Jazz will offer him something like 3/60-70. If he opts out to hit the open market it would be wise to fire his manager.

Absolutely. Next summer is the right time to be a free agent because a bunch of GMs have been planning for the day they sign Luka Doncic in free agency for like half a decade and actually arranged to have cap space. This summer nobody can offer to overpay him even if they wanted to.

Collins is an MLE level guy.

The amount of cap space available this summer versus the next one should definitely inform his decision here.

I think it benefits the Jazz if he opts in. So that would be a nice outcome.
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."
