Regardless of what you think of RJ’s contract he’s not really what Orlando needs - a high usage, medium efficiency wing who needs the ball in his hands to be effective.
If they’re going to spend assets on a backcourt upgrade someone like Simons or Sexton would make a lot more sense
Toronto - Orlando: RJ Barrett to the Magic

Exactly. Orlando has limited trade chips available right now. If we go big game hunting, were gonna save our chips for bigger offseason move(s). RJ doesn't really move the needle for us.

Even if we don't end up going big game hunting we need to be judicious with our trade assets and not trade for ill fitting pieces just because they are a good on offense when their offense skillset doesn't really help in the areas we most need assistance.

I don’t see the Raps moving off of Barrett this summer. He really wants to be in Toronto and believe it or not that's an important factor.
The value is pretty fair for both otherwise. People keep bringing up how awful his contract is, but it’s not awful nor does it matter really. What matters is his next contract and what number it will take to keep him. If a hometown discount is in play then moving him doesn’t make sense at least until you have a better idea of what that number will be. 18% of the cap isn’t awful for what he brings. You’d like it to be around 15% ideally, but it’s not an awful deal.

RJ is a lot better than this board thinks. They're stuck with the image of him on the Knicks when he was colliding with Randle and Brunson and trying to be something he's not, a mid range scorer. The Raptors made him a lot better and he's been playing better defense recently. The Raptors will want to keep him for another year and see how their expensive line up stacks up against the East. The Raptors should probably be the 7th to 10th seed if it wasn't for injuries. They have a problem now where they're too good to tank.
Next season they'll have their bench of rookies developed by another season, their bench is actually pretty stacked. There's a lot of defensive talent between Shead, Mogbo, Walter, Agbaji, and then they have shooting from Dick and Battle. Throw a lottery pick on top of that and add Ingram to their starting line up. They have a pretty good and deep rotation.
Poeltl / Malauch?
Barnes / Mogbo
Ingram / Agbaji / Battle
Barrett / Dick / Walter
IQ / Shead
I would have them better than the Pistons if Barnes, Dick, and a few of their young players take steps forward. They won't be making any big moves unless a star becomes available. They will likely stick it out with this group and then look to trade for a disgruntled superstar like Embiid. Maybe RJ + Poeltl + picks for Embiid as a framework.
Embiid / Maluach
Barnes / Mogbo
Ingram / Agbaji
Dick / Walter
IQ / Shead
That could be a contender. They are on the right track.
