It makes more sense for both sides to move Chet in a deal for AD, not Hartenstein.

Respectfully I’m not sure Dallas could balance that trade.

What is Chet worth with one rookie year left? I could accept more than AD, but not more than AD, Lively, lotto pick this year, Lakers pick. Not that I think Dallas should remotely consider offering that, but they have that to offer.

Am I undervaluing Chet that much?

No, but it gets difficult to evaluate when all three guys have health issues.

Jarret Allen isn’t winning you anything. Garland won’t show up in the playoffs. Mobley is a glorified dunk man. Mitchell has some experience but is a liability on defense. To me, the Cavs are a treadmill team.

I know many of jumped on the trade AD and rebuild trade when Kyrie went down, but I’m starting to think it might just make sense for Dallas to tank with AD next year rather than trade him (assuming a Godfather offer does not exist). Of course he would need to be on board, but play him 50 games and 30 MPG - give him a refresh year. Dallas would then have top-10 picks in 25 and 26 to strengthen the roster.

I happen to really like Dallas starting lineup of:
Irving-Christie-Washington-Davis-Lively

The bench has depth with Gafford-Thompson-Marshall-Martin

The team needs another shot creator - which hopefully one of the lotto picks can be used to add. The other to upgrade one of the bench pieces.

Even if you get a bunch of picks for AD - how long is it going to take to have 2 players like Kyrie and AD on the roster, forgot about also being 9-10 deep and balanced.

No idea of this is a terrible idea.

What about tanking next season but trading AD for Bam?

Say Bam and Terry for AD and Naji

(And whatever asset Miami adds?)

Dallas figures out how to get under the tax later, Klay and/or Gafford based. But they are okay with a first apron hard cap.

Miami doesn’t tank so go get the better player? Spend up to the second apron to build around Ware/AD/Jovic/Wiggins/Naji/JJJ/Herro. Some mid salaries to combine, some assets to add. Can add another guard and go for a deep run if Herro keeps this up?

Dallas tanks. But Bam is 4 years younger than AD, so helps survive the pick debt better?

Involves a lot more changes in Dallas so not that best idea. Just a random one.
