I know Hornets fans feel snakebitten by rebuilding through the draft and are tired of losing, but this just isn't the way.
Committing that much cap to Booker and Melo is disaster pants and the likely result is you become the Suns East. The benefit of having a multitude of picks is that you get several bites at the apple so when someone like Miles flakes out, or Williams struggles to stay healthy, you can cut them loose or retain them on uber friendly deals. Some of the best players on the Rockets roster were taken with their second pick.
The reality is that the Hornets are not one player away, and if Melo can't stay healthy, they're not even two players away. You have to have a foundation in place before you start making moves like this.

Re: Booker welcome to Charlotte
If Charlotte gets the #2 pick, I'd be more inclined to go the opposite direction (i.e., trade Melo for draft picks/prospects and build around Harper and Miller).
I also don't see Phoenix trading Booker this offseason (and if they do, it would be Houston and then everyone else competing for second).

He is not though.
Unproven and complete and total unknown. As opposed to a former 1st team all NBA and multiple time 2nd team and all star participant.
Booker is worth more in a vacuum. Not to a rebuilding team. If the Jazz drop to #2 I would not trade it for Booker. If a team like the Spurs jump to #2 and have the chance to trade for Booker it makes sense. But a team like Char or the Jazz who don’t have a bonafide #1 option….makes no sense to trade the pick for Booker.
Charlotte would be a great team to get him. Pairing of Booker and Melo would make the best back court in the league. Would need a defensive 5 and for Brandon to also play more D but that's a great team IMO.

They've been rebuilding for 3 yrs now including this one. Tough to see them willing to do that for another few yrs

Re: Booker welcome to Charlotte
Booker and Melo isn't the best backcourt in the league or close to it. SGA/whomever the Thunder want to start there. Luka/whomever the Lakers want to start there. Both light years better.
I know we love our guys, but the hard sell on a message board gets silly. Charlotte would still be a lottery team without some massive unexpected development or another major addition or two.

This feels like letting the tail wag the dog. "We've been rebuilding for a while so we need to make moves to get better now" when the result is still a team that probably caps out as a second round exit.
To be fair, some FOs probably do think this way, especially when their jobs are on the line. I just don't think its a smart approach.

Honestly prefer someone better on defense, younger, and secured longterm.
Someone like Trey Murphy III would be a great target for pick 3 or further down.
