Magic/Mavs Shooter and pick swaps

Post#1 » by Texas Chuck » Sun Apr 27, 2025 8:49 pm

Klay/Hardy/#11

for

KCP/#16/#25

Mavs are all about defense so bring in KCP and hope his track record as a shooter holds true. Add two young players before all the draft debt kicks in.

Magic didn't get what they wanted out of KCP so swap him for a different shooter in order to move up and get a better singular prospect.

I'd remove the picks and try straight up Klay/Hardy for KCP. If Magic don't bite I move on. KCP is not the kind of talent upgrade for us to give up on a high upside pick.

I see no reason for Orlando to consider that without more to it. I definitely understand your reticence to dilute the pick for KCP after the season he just had. I just don't know that I see pick #11 as a particularly high upside pick.

Swapping KCP for Klay isnt the move Orlando will be going after this offseason. We will use one or both of those picks to upgrade at PG and some bench help.

If I knew Maluach would be there at #11...Hell yeah!

Otherwise, I'm not so sure the draft hasn't kind of flattened out by then...really depends on further workouts, etc.

Could also, perhaps, find a way to work in Gafford...maybe add in Cole Anthony, who can run point while Kyrie's healing, but has a Team Option at the end of the year. Salaries are a little tougher with Cole. I figure DAL is OK with Lively and AD with Powell backing up...if not, pull Jett and take Goga. KCP is really impactful, but I think his signing was a big mistake as he basically replicates Suggs and Anthony Black is emerging as another of the same type, not the PG ORL still is missing (but that's another trade).

How about...
ORL sends: KCP, Jett Howard, #16, #25
DAL sends: Gafford, Klay, #11

Version 2, If DAL wants to bolster C spot:
ORL sends: KCP, Goga Bitadze, #16, #46
DAL sends: Gafford, Klay, Hardy, #11

I'd do any of them and I'm not even that excited about Klay...it's more about knocking off a few bucks, upgrading C, and moving up in the draft, imo...Hardy is certainly intriguing as a cheaper, younger Cole Anthony as well.

Makes sense for Orlando if Klay isn't going to have issues coming off the bench. (with or without the draft picks as IMO that's about an even swap).

Start Suggs and an offensive guard (White? Simons? Sexton? Someone else) then have Black and Klay off the bench (Klay can also play some SF bench minutes).

I can accept Magic fans being out. But a Gafford/Anthony swap feels like too much of a swing the Magic way. Dallas already has a backup scoring guard making the minimum for next year. Gafford might be movable but he can't be given away like that. And if they take Goga not Anthony now they are being asked to not get the other first for a center that his teams have never seen as a playoff guy.

Probably just not a deal here.
