MIL/PHX

Post#1 » by HornetJail » Mon Apr 28, 2025 3:32 am

If it is confirmed that Lillard injured his achilles and is out next season...

Phoenix trades Beal, Allen
Milwaukee trades Lillard, Portis

Two desperate teams trying to hold onto the present because there is no future. Both star players are on essentially two-year identical value contracts (Beal owed $1M/year less).

Why for PHX: Beal is giving the Suns nothing they don't already have. This trade is for 2026-27, in hopes that Lillard is simply a better player that fits way better. Portis gives them a better frontcourt option than they currently have. A little bit of cap savings here as well. The trade is legal once the Suns cut all the ex-Hornet bums on UNG contracts, and drop below the 2nd apron.

Why for MIL: Try to keep it going around Giannis. Beal will play next season, while Lillard probably will not. Beal won't ever be a max player again but he absolutely can contribute, and Allen should as well.

Why Beal should waive his NTC for this: Beal will continue to get marginalized on the Suns roster, will generally have free reign on the Bucks backcourt, and should play off of Giannis quite well. A great couples seasons with high usage could be a great thing for Beal's contract value in 2027.

Is that even CBA legal? I don’t think so.

Yep, good chance we might see something like Kobe's last year here after a year of rehab.

I have Giannis asking out this summer. Dame is probably missing next year.
