Cleveland and Sacremento

Post#1 » by bgrep14 » Mon Apr 28, 2025 12:44 pm

Cleveland: Murray, Valanciunas, Monk, 2027 Spurs 1st, and 2031 Timberwolves 1st

Sacremento: Garland and Strus

Cavs get picks and cut 10 million in salary to resign Jerome and still get solid rotational pieces.

Sacremento gets their PG who is an easy plug and play with Lavine, Derozan, and Sabonis

For starters, I don't think the trade is legal, looks like too much money is headed to Sacramento. Outside of that, I'm not sure either team does this. Murray is due for another contract, and Val is not going to get much burn in Cleveland. Does the savings for Cleveland even change the amount they can offer Jerome?
Well at least we're not Detroit!

It’s legal in fanspo trade machine for 2025-2026. I’m pretty sure the cavs can’t offer Jerome more than 15 million per year which is 12.5 more than he’s making now so they’d just have to not resign TT. They may also have to look to dump Okoro or Monk for a pick and TPE if they are gonna stay under the second apron.

I'd do it with Mitchell in Garland's place. As is, with Mitchell, Monk, Jerome, Porter, etc: Mobley and Allen may as well sit on their hands until it's time to defend again, which I don't think either would or should do.

Kings shouldn't be trading Keegan. And we definitely shouldn't because a guy fits with derozan/lavine who should both be on the block this summer.

I like Garland, but that kings team goes nowhere. Value maybe good, but it's the wrong move. We need to look at adding a 1 and a 4 using Derozan/lavine/monk, not trading our only resl forward.

Allen and Mobley work because of Garland and Mitchell. The Cavs finished with the second best record in the NBA and the No. 1 seed in the East. They're currently up 3-0 against the Heat. Gilbert carried the highest payroll in the NBA up and until Kyrie made his trade demand. People have taken leave of their senses.

The Cavs can offer Jerome 105% of the league average salary (~$13-14m or so). They can't offer substantially more unless they get cap space, which would require offloading Garland + Hunter or similar. This isn't a limitation of the aprons, it's a limitation of Early Bird rights and lack of room under the cap.

You might want to move Garland to incentivize Jerome with a starting job (if the Cavs come to the point where they'd trade a core player, which they are VERY far away from right now). But then you need to bring back at least a potential all-star wing and probably a backup PG unless you're very high on CPJ.

I don't think the OP is proposing this because he thinks Gilbert is cheap. I think its regarding the limitations towards keeping Jerome right?

That said as good as Jerome has been in his role, I don't think you punt the superior player in hopes of being able to retain him. Trust your scouts and FO and development coaches to go find another guard on the cheap. These guys pop every year, just got to find the next one.

The O.P. is proposing this because he doesn't like Garland and has wanted him gone for years. Every trade he proposes has Garland in the outbox and that was true well before we traded LeVert's expiring for Hunter and Mobley won DPOY.

The reality is the Cavs will be a second apron team with Garland, and if they trade Garland to the Nets for $40M in capspace and picks, they'd be able to offer Ty no more than the MLE. That's about a million or two more than they can offer him now. None if it makes a lick of sense. Ty was 2-8 for 6 points in 23 minutes in Game 2.

This may be garlands value but I don't like his size or defense enough to justify giving up that much for the kings. I would rather look at other targets if that is the price
