In detroit, I don't see any likely path to us having real cap space - as in cut guys to get under the cap and then make a big FA offer. If we are involved, it would be more like "we can free up enough space so that we take back more salary than we send out in a trade for a rotation player".

Agree especially if Cade makes all-NBA. More realistic is probably re-signing THJ/Shroeder and operating as an over the cap team to re-sign Beasley with the MLE.

Utah will likely have around $14 million, assuming no trades, declining some options/ung. deals, and waiving some cap holds. Spotrac's "projected cap space" page is fairly good: https://www.spotrac.com/nba/cap/_/year/2025

The data is helpful, but the site is nearly unusable on mobile/iPhone since their update before last season, imo. Like, the site won’t slide left or right reliably to find the data. And on player salaries, it defaults to showing names, but the salary is off screen.

Does that include the cap hold for whoever they draft?

Jarret Allen isn’t winning you anything. Garland won’t show up in the playoffs. Mobley is a glorified dunk man. Mitchell has some experience but is a liability on defense. To me, the Cavs are a treadmill team.

It's supposed to, I can do the math myself later and get back to you!

It does not appear to. Smitty has their cap holds listed as only $4.097m, or the equivalents of Micah Potter and Oscar Tshiebwe. Not their 2 other 1st round draft holds...

Trade Claxton and Cam for the best deals and I would move the cap space to a better crop of FA in 2026 of course in exchange for assets.. the Rozier/Connaughton etc... I would even accept Beal in exchange for all the picks, Suns prospects (including what they get from the KD trade) if they are desperate enough.. example..
KD to HOUSTON (or Dallas?)

SUNS FRP (9) + Beal to + Whitmore + Future FRP to NETS

FVV/Cam Johnson/J. Smith to SUNS

Did someone just offer a deal where the Nets lose Cam Johnson and have to take Beal in a deal?

No they don’t. Pointless to trade a big haul for Giannis and carry the deadweight of Dame. Maybe if Giannis was 25 you find a way and do it, but no way to build around him at this age if you have to be shackled to Dame too.

Exactly, but if the Nets did want to trade for Giannis, cap space is still advantageous. They can offer massive salary and tax relief to the Bucks. If the Bucks deal Giannis, they will not want to be a tax payer, especially with Dame out for the season.
