Philly tanks again (Lillard-George)

Post#1 » by babyjax13 » Sun May 4, 2025 1:25 am

Lets say Philadelphia doesn't know whether Embiid will be back in time next season to make the playoffs and they decide to create some future flexibility. Milwaukee needs to have someone who will be able to play next season, so they have to move Lillard. Seems like a match?

PHI trades: Paul George
MIL trades: Damian Lillard
Philadelphia cuts a year off of George, and in 26-27 will have a really nice guard rotation around Embiid + whoever they draft in 2025 and 2026.
Milwaukee trades Lillard for someone who can play(?), who at least is a good fit with Giannis if healthy.

Maybe that's a benefit. The path to contending again is probably non-existent.

Philly isnt tanking if they owe next years 1st to OKC. I presume they miss out badly in the lottery in OP

It is still 1-4 protected in 2026 and 2027 - so it would need to be a very dramatic tank if it does not convey in 2025 (which I think this does?).

Milwaukee's immediate future is better with George than with Dame. The problem is I don't think the bucks want to take on that long of a deal

Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

I don't know about that. If Giannis is okay with gunning for the MVP next year, we enter next offseason with Dame hopefully healthy and more picks available to trade. You could conceivably make a meaningful splash then and make a legit run with age 31/32 Giannis, still in his prime, albeit entering the back end.

It's not the most favorable position, but having Giannis alone puts us in a different bucket than other teams that don't have a Top-3 talent on their rosters.

Maybe this
PG13 to Milw (if Giannis is on board)
Lillard to Suns
Beal to Sixers

Beal can play now
Suns get a great potential fit for the next year with Booker?

Yuck. George is still better than Beal.

2 years, 112M, will miss a full season, will be a 36 year old 6 foot guard trying to come back from an Achilles in the following...

I don't think the Sixers are that desperate to get off of PG. That's basically dead money.

I’m guessing Dame will be ready by playoff time next season, think he’ll be better than George when he comes back from injury still and contract isn’t as long. I don’t think George moves the needle much and the same for Beal. I’ll take post Achilles Dame over Beal or George still
