That's a big jump for WAS for taking an expiring player that is only $8.5M and could be flipped elsewhere (see DET post above).

Spending $8.5M to move up 13 spots in the second round is really poor value. Just a year ago, the Wizards got paid one high SRP and one mid SRP to absorb the $12.5M salary of Bagley for one year.

I might pay that to move up all the way to #28. Or I'd do it to acquire he #32 without giving up the #45.

Fair, but Niang is useful and cheaper. You can flip him or keep him to give your young guys another vet and some spacing. Bagkey was a scratch ticket with barely any grey stuff left that even if it paid off wasn’t worth the price.

Bagley was worth the price. He was acquired for two aforementioned two second rounders. A year later, he's traded (alongside the expiring filler of Johnny Davis) for Marcus Smart and a 1st rounder (that is going to be the 18th pick). The Wiz will probably flip Smart for additional draft capital by the deadline.

Niang does nothing for the Wizards. They want to be really bad this upcoming season to ensure their owed 1st rounder to NY is not conveyed. This upcoming draft class is really strong. They already have the vet mentors who don't play like Anthony Gil and the vet mentors that do (like Middleton and Smart). Giang is useless and just takes up roster space. Unless the Wiz get two future 2nds, this deal makes no sense for them.

Fair enough in Niang, I’d flip him them, but I can see it not worth your trouble for the 13 spots. But I do feel that 32 is a different tier than 45 in this draft.

I was just having fun, but still maintain Bagkey was a worse contract than Georges. You got the first for taking on Smart, not cuz Bagley was worth anything other than expiring.

I was more impressed by Bagley in Washington than I thought I would be. I thought he'd be a "what about me" guy whining about his role, playing time, not hustling on defense, etc. Instead, his public statements were always very positive and there were stories about him doing extra work with Sarr to try to help the rookie. It seems he was a class act, even if his spot is pretty well established as limited range offensive minded bench big.
