Either the teams get creative in adding other value one direction or the other, or you are having to ask one of the teams to make a deal they don't like the value on.

To me this can be salvaged with pick 25 if there is a team willing to give up expiring or at least greatly reduced future money for KCP. Now Portland isn't taking on a salary into 26-27 they don't want so they don't need extra value there.

To be clear, I don’t really mind #25 instead of #16…for me it’s worth it to avoid Cronin resigning Simons to a stupid contract.

I get what you are saying but its kind of funny. If you had the power the accept this deal you would also have the power to not give Simons the contract. The person who accepts this deal will also be the same person determining if they want to resign Simons. If Cronin was planning to keep Simons around then he wouldn't do this deal. So again I get the sentiment that I would prefer this to resigning Simons but its kind of funny reasoning when you think about it.

I still am on the side that taking on KCP's deal is akin to resigning Simons and not something I'm willing to do without cost.

But we also are at the point of the season where draft picks aren't just nameless numbers - if I can get a guy I'm targeting at #25 (Clifford, Fleming, Bryant, Lendeborg maybe) then I think I would still pull the trigger. My feeling is most of my targets are gone by #25 and I'm not sure if the next tier of player is worth it, but depending on how the draft plays out if I get a prospect I want then really whether it's at #16 or #25 is not that different.

Yep, I recognize the flaw in the logic...and we both know Cronin deep down is going to want to resign Simons (gross). My point is that I hope he sees enough value in a trade to take away that impulse.
