Spurs moving down from #2 (Brooklyn + Charlotte)

Post#1 » by Ell Curry » Mon May 12, 2025 11:38 pm

Can't imagine Castle, Fox and Harper being an optimal fit for the playoffs, though it would probably work fine in the regular season with Harper having a 6'10 wingspan and Castle being physical so they can guard 2s okay, play about 32 minutes each and 2 out of 3 are out there at all times, then Wemby and whoever can hit a jumper and rebound/play D, so maybe Vassell gets traded?

Spurs - Cam Johnson + #4 + #26
Charlotte - #8, #14
Brooklyn - #2 + Harrison Barnes

Spurs move down from #2 to #4 in order to make a great trade of Cam Johnson + #26 for Harrison Barnes + #14, presumably draft Edgecombe or Bailey?

Charlotte moves down from Bailey or Edgecombe but gets an extra lottery pick, so they can draft a center to pair with/replace Mark Williams and hopefully a starting wing. Only makes sense if they aren't in love with the #4 pick and have it as close to equal for the #8 pick.

Brooklyn gets Harper to be their lead guard.
Where's the D?

I think I might just be lower on Cam Johnson than a lot of others, but this seems terrible to me for SA.

I don't value Cam at all, so the move from 14 to 26 makes it a clear no. I'm not against the Spurs moving down though.

CamJ+#8+future Knicks 1st gets you how close to #2.

I'm assuming the Spurs wouldn't want extra picks in this draft.

I don't think that gets you particularly close.

This is bad. #2 for #4 and an unprotected Charlotte 2026 1st is where the bidding begins.

I doubt San Antonio does this. They are getting 2 of the best 4-5 prospects of the past 6 years here in Wemby/Harper.

Moving down from the 2nd pick to the 4th pick in order to get Cam Johnson makes no sense for the Spurs. It would harder for the Spurs to trade for Giannis without including Stephen Castle and it would also negatively impact their 2026 cap situation.
