Rockets move up the timeline/Hornets play the long game

Post#1 » by GoBobs » Tue May 13, 2025 7:58 pm

Hornets out: #4
Rockets out: #10, 2027 Suns first, 2029 Suns first

Why for Houston: they are ready to draft for need, and they need more shooting. It is hard to find that outside the top part of the lottery, but 4 might get them Tre Johnson. They make a consolidation trade which is expensive to accomplish in the NBA, a late lotto pick and two maybes for an early lotto pick.

Why for Charlotte: they continue the path they have been working on the last few years by picking up more future assets

I think it gets you one of those picks, not both.

Jarret Allen isn’t winning you anything. Garland won’t show up in the playoffs. Mobley is a glorified dunk man. Mitchell has some experience but is a liability on defense. To me, the Cavs are a treadmill team.

Thought this was a Melo deal. Rockets don’t anyone at 10 . . . . . Or 4.
Harper would be a nice fit and you make it work around Flagg. Anyone else can grab a seat next to Cam and Sheppard.

Would pay that for two but nothing lower.
Otherwise, a star or future picks.

This deal gets you one of those firsts, not both.

Yea, that is probably the cost to move to #2.

My Draft tiers
#1

#2

#3 / #4
#5-#15

I'd toss you Cam Whitmore to move up, but that would be about it.

If the Rockets wanted shooting so bad then why not draft Jase Richardson?

because he is 6 ft only and you already have reed sheppard for a small combo/pg

Maybe that is closer to fair value, but one of those picks might end up being #25 or something. The #4 is a sure thing as far as being at the upper end of the lotto. It takes both to actually move up and get the bird in the hand, not to mention 2029 is a long time to wait.

It's too risky. Nobody is a guaranteed hit, these guys are all 19 or 20.
