BOS retools and saves money

Trade #1

BOS: Norman Powell, Kris Dunn, Kobe Brown
LAC: Jrue Holiday

BOS reduces cap by $3.835 million

Trade #2

BOS: Isaiah Stewart, Simone Fontecchio, 2025 2nd (from TOR)
DET: Kristaps Porzingis, Sam Hauser

BOS reduces cap by $17.468 million

Total cap reduction: $23.957 million (approx. & with TPEs included)

Boston is currently slated to be over $19.59 million over the 2nd apron for the 2025-26 season. These two trades, if executed concurrently with one another, would get them under the 2nd apron by over $4 million, saving them an estimated $54 million. This also allows them to bring back Al Horford on a team-friendly multi-year deal if he so chooses. More importantly however, they'd be clearing nearly $20 million off the books for the 2026-27 season (Tatum's potential return) and $48.8 million for the following season if they don't resign any of the players they got in the trades.

Plus, some of the guys they get back could be legitimate rotation players for them next season, which allows them to still remain competitive in Tatum's absence.

Pistons say yes to this trade because it allows them to get significantly better next season while not giving up much in the way of assets and also not sacrificing their salary cap flexibility in the future.

Clippers say yes to this trade because they're all in on this Kawhi - Harden era whether they like it or not and Jrue can still offer value as a ball handler, facilitator, cutter, defender and spot-up shooter even if he has regressed in all those areas.

I like both of those. Jrue for (Powell or Klay/PJ) & small filler is my main plan as well.

Hauser is step 2, but ideally no $ back and a 2nd or something. I probably, weirdly, lean to keep KP since he's expiring then look to resign him super cheap (MLE or less) next summer. Which I think is possible due to health concerns lowering his value / him loving BOS.

But, I also like Stewart, so if that all happened as is, I'd be good with it.
We'd try to keep the 2nd to use to dump Fontecchio, but it's pretty solid even with it.
