Spurs/Hornets draft night trade

Post#1 » by JustBuzzin » Sat May 17, 2025 4:47 pm

Spurs trade: Stephon Castle
Hornets trade: #4/Tidjane Salaun

Spurs take Harper #2 and move back up to pair him with his college buddy Ace Bailey with the #4 pick. They also get a young prospect they reportedly wanted last draft in Tidjane Salaun.

Hornets get a proven young prospect in Stephon Castle who fits nicely with LaMelo/Miller at the sg spot.

If the Spurs had won the draft and weren't picking a guard at, then there'd be a possibility that they'd want a scoring guard in Johnson. Now, I don't think they'd want anyone at four enough to trade Castle. They probably did like Salaun at eight last year, but I doubt he bridges the gap this year given his rookie season.

Trading Castle for a draft pick feels like that Family Guy mystery box or a boat joke, where the mystery box could be anything, it could even be a boat! (Sorry for the spoilers)

I don’t know if they should trade him for anything other than a star (Flagg being an obvious exception). If they’re sold on Harper, there’s probably a way to make it work, even if it’s awkward and then address things down the road if needed.
Rest in peace Mamba. There'll never be another Kobe.

How does a Fox/LaMelo backcourt work?

pretty well, in an ideal setting, neither of them should be particularly ball dominant, it would be a very nice dynamic that opens things up for both of them

Tidjane Salaun is worth nothing, I don't think I'd send a SRP for him, so he's salary filler to me. If Spurs were concerned about the fit with Harper and absolutely LOVED someone at 4, then there's crazier routes to go than this. Say a Tre Johnson for Castle type trade. But honestly I think the best way to go is to just hold on to Harper and Castle, and evaluate the situation for a year. Then you know where you stand, and you trade someone if you have to. But making a decision right now feels premature and risky.
