Grimes for Aldama

Post#1 » by zaz102 » Sun May 18, 2025 6:13 pm

Philadelphia 76ers
Out: Quentin Grimes
In: Santi Aldama

Memphis Grizzlies
Out: Santi Aldama
In: Quentin Grimes

Philadelphia decide they want to draft VJ Edgecombe in the upcoming draft. They see the logjam at the guard position and hole at power forward and make the swap.

Memphis decide they want to keep Morant and want some size in the backcourt with him and give up some of their forward depth.

Both players are restricted FAs and I'm thinking a S&T for a similar contract.

I feel like no matter how little stock you put in Quentin Grimes' post deadline numbers for the tanking Sixers, he should be significantly more valuable. Also Grimes is a FA, so how much is he being S&T for here?

what contract are you giving them? they would both have BYC so matching is tricky. Philly is also about 10 mil away from 1st apron after signing their draft pick

I'm not sure exactly what Grimes would go for. Let's say $60M/4 years.

Grizzlies say no. Aldama is the light version of Love/Lauri. Just harder to find that type of mobile pf stretcher than someone like Grimes, e.g., Memphis can target NAW.

Santi has more value than Grimes who has now been traded 4 times before the end of his rookie deal. Grimes though a fine player is easier to find than Santi.

Double sign and trade off of rookie contract feels really tough to pull off.

If both teams prefer the other player, I would have Philly owing Memphis a second? But you’d need a (at least) a 3rd team involved to play with the money. And Philly would have to cut salary else where.

Maybe best as a January trade to revisit.
