There is an article from an Orlando writer talking about the idea of acquiring Jrue Holiday. I don't know how to post a link, just google "orlandomagicdaily Jrue Holiday".

I think Boston will keep Jrue and cut costs elsewhere if moving Jrue is going to cost draft capital.
Boston has 5 players that will return positive value.
Tatum, Brown, White, Hauser, Pritchard
Tatum is not going anywhere, but deals will be plentiful for the other four guys
Porzingis is on an expiring, much easier to move or even (in case of emergency can be waive/stretched)

People are overestimating the degree that Boston feels over the barrel in this financial situation.

Less than 2 yrs ago, Boston sent out a lottery pick and an unprotected pick in 29 to acquire Jrue. No chance that Boston is sending 3 picks out to move Holiday now imo.

Pacernation wrote:Boston trades: Jrue, 27 1st lottery protected, 25 2nd via Was., 26 2nd via Min etc.
Orlando trades: KCP, Gary Harris, Cory Joseph, 25 2nd via Boston.

Orlando gets a mentor for Black and the other young guys that can still play and some picks as incentive for taking on the contract and some insurance to attach picks if the roster get's too expensive and they need to trade somebody.
Boston get's a veteran wing with a tradeable contract and two expirings which allows them to shed 11 mio in salary. They also keep their 25 first rounder so they still can pick a young guy this year and try to develop him. Who says no?

He will still be a starter level 2 way versatile player through the life of his contract . He takes great care of himself and is a great team guy. I like this trade for Orlando without the picks.
For Boston I hate moving on from Jrue but it probably has to be done so I consider it.
If picks are attached then a Bette rooster has to come back.
Orlando when Healthy is close to making a run for contention and a move like this doesn’t hurt the long term window and makes them tough…really tough in the east.

then why hasnt he been able to play 70 games in 7 years?

Two of those seasons were covid shortened.
One really has nothing to do with the other. He has had some minor injuries and missed a few games here and there, as do most NBA players. I was more thinking about the likelyhood that he is an effective and useful player through the life of his contract.

I think Orlando could find his production today, not 5 years ago, for half the price.

yeah, I read that article. its just an online writer throwing stuff at the wall. as for "championship mentoring", they already have that in KCP. As for Jrue giving "reliable play at the PG position", thats mostly come from White not Jrue.

That’s a far sentiment for sure…but that player will Cost the Magic legit assets. Any ideas? The list of Primary ball handlers and point of attack defenders in the league is very short.

I'd be all over this if it was 3 or 4 years ago.

I just have no interest in paying Jrue $32.4M, $34.8M and $37.2M for his age 35, 36 and 37 seasons.

He handles the ball a lot. Before coming to Boston he was. When they are both on the floor it’s usually White. Jrue is capable and has been most of his career.

fair enough. I just dont see it for Orlando. I think he has declined a lot and we have KCP as the "championship elder statesmen" in the locker room. too much money for his production
