DEN DAL: Murray for Kyrie

Post#1 » by durantbird » Wed May 21, 2025 8:47 am

Dallas get:

Jamal Murray, Dario Saric

Nuggets get:

Kyrie Irving, Jaden Hardy

Rationale:

Dallas get a younger running mate alongside Flagg, 28 versus 33 is crucial here because Flagg probably takes at least a few years to be a relevant NBA superstar.

Denver get a more stable offensive option next to Jokic. Murray didn't produce a the expected level in the current playoffs. Hardy gives them additional depth.

If we knew when Irving would be back next season it might work.

Kyrie has to opt in. Even then he's an expiring.

Murray is owed $210m over next 4 seasons.

I think it's a close call which is better

Murray gets alot of crap because he's had injuries, which is partly why he's never made an all-star team... in truth though, Murray is a actually better than Kyrie.

Murray is not a better player than Kyrie. But he's not currently injured and is under contract. Depending on how you feel about said contract or maybe how you feel Kyrie will age/return from injury feel free to value him more. But what we've seen on the court? Its no question Kyrie is the better, more consistent player.

Thought of a similar trade except instead of Irving it becomes Garland and Cleveland.

Kyrie is 33 coming off an ACL, I don't know if he'll play next year and I don't know if he'll ever be very good again.

Risky for Denver. Kyrie is better but Murray and Joker have history. Murray isn’t known as some defensive stopper imo, and Dallas supposedly wants defense. Wonder if Dallas is more likely to go after Gordon?

Don't even see how this is remotely debatable.

Think this would be DOA for both teams due to Kyrie injury. If he wasn’t hurt, you could try to fix the value. But he’s hurt so Denver shouldn’t take that risk. And Dallas shouldn’t really want Murray’s contract.
