Kings - Nuggets - Mavericks - Celtics

Post#1 » by LightTheBeam » Tue May 20, 2025 8:35 pm

Fairly large deal ahead

Kings out: Demar, Monk, JV, Terence Davis, 2 2nds
Kings in: MPJ, Jrue Holiday

Trade checker says this works, Viveks pockets say it doesn't as Sac eats an extra 14 million lol. Sac refuses to tank, this gives them a solid team to at least have a 2 year push with.
Jrue - LaVine - Keegan - MPJ - Sabonis
Carter - Keon - LaRavia*

Nuggets out: MPJ, Nnaji
Nuggets in: Monk, Caleb Martin, JV, Hardy

Nuggets turn MPJ into a bunch of role players who fit the team. Martin slots in as a 3&D wing, JV gives Jokic a backup big who is reliable, Monk replaces Westbrooks energy off the bench.
Murray - Braun - Martin - Gordon - Jokic
Monk - Strawther - Watson - JV

Mavs out: Naji Marshall, Martin, Hardy
Mavs in: Demar, 2 2nds from Sac

Mavs move off some of the wing depth for a scorer/playmaker who can help hold it down while Kyrie is out. Can look to move Klay or Washington for a PG
Kyrie* - Demar - Flagg - AD - Lively
Christie - Klay - Washington - Gafford

Boston out: Holiday
Boston in: Naji Marshall, Zeke NNaji, Terence Davis

Boston saves 13 million and gets a solid wing to step into the rotation for next year and beyond.

I don't love it, but you might could get the Denver/Sacramento/Dallas portion to work. Though I understand the Kings don't do it without the Boston part. Just have a hard time seeing Boston trade Jrue for yes some money savings now, but also taking that dead money in Nnaji. Knife is useful, but not if you also have to take Nnaji's money imo.

Maybe if the Bos 1st this year and the Kings 2nds go to a 4th team along with Nnaji? Celtics now save a bunch more money and don't have an unwanted contract on their books.

This was my thought. Nuggets would be using 28 to try and dump Nnaji. A 4 team deal is already a lot to process, didn't feel like finding that 5th team now.

Martin and Hardy are bad money, Mavs are sending slightly negative package and gettrin Demar and 2nds, I'd say they are stealing value...
Boston are getting a sweet deal here, too sweet IMO, Naji is a positive and dumpable for free, Zeke Nnaji cap hit is much smaller than Holiday
Niggets are fine on value, but terrible fit...
Kings are getting hosed...
I'd send Hardy + small deal to Boston and Hauser to Nuggets, this solves Nuggets and Celtics.
Mavs should return the 2 2nds and add 2 of their own.

Follow ups here for BOS would probably be:

1) Porzingis to CHA for Nurkic and Okogie, with CHA paying freight in 2nd(s) to dump Okogie somewhere else.

2) send Marshall into someone's TPE/MLE in a straight salary dump

3) Send Sam Hauser into someone's TPE/MLE in a straight salary dump

4) Waive and stretch Nurkic

At that point, Celtics would be under the luxury tax both this year and next. They'd owe 28 swap rights to SA and their 29 1st to POR or WAS, but own the rest of their picks and none would be frozen. Tatum out for the year and Brown might need some time to rest his meniscus injury. They'd slog through a tank year next year, hope for a decent 2026 1st rounder and try to develop last year's first (Schierman) and this year's picks (#28, #32) as a good supporting cast along with Pritchard to the Big 3 of Tatum/Brown/White that they still have. Nnaji there as dead weight salary filler to use in a trade too next year.

That is not a bad trade overall, but for the Kings, man, that is a crazy over the top trade if it doesn't work. 70 million plus for non super mover players. If Domas is what he is this is a franchise killer.

I mean we give up no future assets here. I don't think its really a franchise killer. Where we are now, is honestly a dead team.
Sabonis has 3 years left
Jrue has 3 years left
LaVine has 2 years left
MPJ has 2 years left

This is essentially a 1.5 year run. If it fails we tear it down and start fresh. Salary wise this team is ugly, but on court this is much better than what we have today. Jrue compliments a backcourt of LaVine, Carter, Keon very well. MPJ gives us a forward who fits great with Sabonis, and helps Keegan slot back in his normal role.

I don't love the idea of adding Holiday at this point in his career on the contract that he is on. I would pass on this one for that alone. I do like MPJ for the kings but I think he can be gotten without having to take the risk that Holiday's contract represents.
