Lauri to Spurs (3 team w/ Sixers)

Post#1 » by PhillyFan11 » Thu May 22, 2025 2:12 am

Sixers out: #3, Oubre, Drummond, and Gordon
Sixers in: #5, #14, and Harrison Barnes

Sixers move back 2 spots and pick up an extra lottery pick. Barnes is an expiring contract that is a better fit than Oubre.

Spurs out: #14, Devin Vassell, and Harrison Barnes
Spurs in: Lauri Markkanen

Spurs landing the #2 pick and presumably drafting Harper will create a logjam at G for them. Wemby and Markkanen will create scary matchup problems with Fox, Castle and Harper playing G.

Jazz out: #5 and Markkanen
Jazz in: #3, Vassell, Oubre, Drummond, and Gordon

Jazz move up for a potential franchise player in Bailey while also adding a young building block in Vassell.

Its bad value in a vacuum for Philly but if they love a guy they think other teams won't pick and just want to scoop up value then okay.

Hate it for the Jazz unless they just love someone they believe won't get to 5.

Great for the Spurs who get a good player for a questionable contract and a mid 1st.

This is absolutely a non-starter, we aren't using Lauri to move up two spots while also taking Vassell. I don't even think Bailey is the 3rd best prospect in this draft - I think it is Tre Johnson - so if we are trading up it is hopefully b/c of intel he'll be gone. A 6-8 forward who can't dribble and is too thin to finish over guards isn't my ideal third pick. I'm perfectly happy to end up with him, but not at the cost of Lauri.

That said, there are certainly formulations of a Lauri + 5 for 3 + something deal that make sense.

It's not terrible for the Spurs. I could see them doing it. Ainge won't though. He'll hang on to Lauri till all his value is gone

Agreed. This version just feel like SA is inserted to suck up value from both teams.

Sixers don’t want Harrison Barnes.
