also the bucks say no, this just turns us into a **** version of the rockets, with no picks

ya'll are one of the teams that can make a compelling offer if he's truly disgruntled but neither side would want the deal to look like this

So you think Bucks prefer a bunch of potential players over the knowns of Amen and Sengun?

I'm not sure about that, Bucks don't have their own picks. Unless you can get them from the Pelicans there isn't really a point to going for a pick heavy package over two legit young players with all star level talent.

A few thoughts:

1 - when you are trading for a top 5 player in the league, you likely don't get to keep all your best players.
2 - you also don't trade for a win now player in his prime if you can't field a competitive team around him. I doubt the deal both thompson and sengun.

At the end of the day, if houston trades for giannis I would expect it to be a package that includes amen, Sheppard, and picks. I would demand amen if I am the bucks and he is a bad fit next to giannis anyway.

Bucks receive #7, #10, 2026 MIL 1st Swap return via NOP, 2027 MIL 1st Swap return via NOP, 2027 best two of PHX/hou/bkn, 2029 best two of dal/hou/phx. Plus Whitmore, JGreen, Murray. That is eight firsts - premium firsts that could all be lottery.
NO gets Sheppard, Jabari and Portis. NO shores weaknesses and adds talent for long term.
Houston gets Giannis to add to Sengun, Amen, Eason, Vleet with resigned Adams and Brooks.

Yes, Milwaukee is not adding a star but eight high value firsts (two in lottery now) is a ton. Cam and Green still can bust out. I know Rockets fans want them in the East if dealt. Murray might rehab and have trade value.
Bucks get their picks back and some youth to build around.

Bucks get Amen+Sengun+Brooks

Rockets get Giannis

Rockets have FVV, Green, Tari, Gainnis, Jabari -- Reed, Cam, Adams plus #10 in draft and MLE.
Rockets would retain their picks and the ability to improve.

Bucks get two true foundation pieces so they can stay competitive and rebuild without bottoming out.

Bucks need multiple draft picks to sell to their fanbase. That's just the nature of dealing superstars.

Here's how I would design it:

- One of Amen/Sengun
- '25 1st (#10), '27 PHX 1st, '28 HOU 1st
- One of Tari/Jabari.
- Whitmore
- Reed

Let's assume Milwaukee wants Sengun, based on the fact that he's an established all star at 22. And Jabari, since he's a former top 3 pick.

Houston is:

Fred /
Jalen / Amen
Brooks / Tari
Giannis /
Adams / Londale

That's the top 8. Is that enough to beat the Spurs/OKC? I don't think so, tbh. But they would have cap space to reload next year after Fred expires.

That's basically what I'd want if I'm Milwaukee, but I'd flip Eason or the #10 pick to New Orleans for the 2026 swap/2027 pick (I don't know if Eason or the pick would be enough...I'd negotiate).

I also think Sengun would be in the trade over Thompson due to salary (plus I think Houston prefers keeping Thompson).

Reed, Whitmore, Sengun plus picks (which include the pick & pick swap from New Orleans). Houston upgrades from Sengun to Giannis and the Bucks now have assets to work with (they can be bad for two years and rebuild).

However, I have no idea how much Houston is willing to offer.

Honestly I feel like Milwaukee and Houston are awful trade partners for Giannis. For the Bucks, I 100% feel that both Sengun AND Amen Thompson are being massively overrated by the success Houston had as a team. I like Amen a lot as a starter on a good team, but I don't feel he's ever going to be close to good enough individually to be the clear cut 1st or 2nd best player on a contender, he is an atrocious shooter with nothing to indicate he will ever be a plus in that area (and likely never even a mediocre level shooter) and doesn't project as an elite scorer. It's hard for me to envision him as some elite creator too as a complete nonshooter as well. Think he firmly settles in as a nice 3rd option who's an elite defender.

Sengun I just don't view as a fit on a contending team at all. Just don't think he's starter ever at any point for a true contender just based on his style of play, got some in common with Sabonis in that regard. Nifty player, but again, think his absolute upside is 3rd option with 2 clear cut better players on a team with him.

Because of that I just don't view what Houston can offer as remotely attractive to Milwaukee. Houston doesn't even have a clear cut #1 on their own team, which is why they would want to trade for Giannis to begin with, so to me it's just a nonstarter to consider trading Giannis to Houston when nothing they can offer will ever even potentially be a blue chip rebuilding piece.

Amen Thompson is 100% being massively overrated currently. Last time I remember a young dude being overrated like this was was like 2006 Luol Deng, and when it's all said and done I'm very confident they will end up with similar career arcs.
