Orlando - Washington

Post#1 » by Godaddycurse » Sat May 24, 2025 3:00 pm

Orlando trade: 16, 2026 1st
Orlando receive: 6

Washington trade: 6
Washington receive: 16, better of ORL/PHX 2026 1st

Why for Orlando: trade up to draft their center or PG of future
Why for Washington: trade back to get another crack at lottery next year

It’s not a terrible offer for #6. I don’t think the Wizards would do it because I think they like a couple of guys at that spot, but it’s not bad. However when did Orlando own phx 2026 1st? The wizards have pick swap options from the Beal trade if I’m not mistaken.

I think Wiz should stay pat instead of relying on this when Orl is chalk full of young talent, well coached, and Bos/Mil are sure to falter

Orlando has a swap option with Phoenix after washington's swap.

Orlando has a swap option with Phoenix after washington's swap.

Well, that swap option is useless then. This is just the #16 and Orlando's 2026 pick. Assuming Boston punts on the season to save money, the Eastern Conference has only 5 respectable teams: CLE, IND, NY, ORL and DET. That virtually guarantees that Orlando's pick will be no higher than #19 or so.

I'm not trading #6 for #16 and #19.

The Wizards would have to hate all their options at #6. though if Phoenix looks like they're going to blow it all up at the draft, maybe it's worth it

not sure you understood how this swap work

Assuming Phoenix finishes ~8th to 10th, Washington finishes top 3 worst, and orlando is playoff team

Scenario 1:

Phoenix wins lottery, washington loses
then Washingotn gets Phoenix' top 4 pick, Orlando get washingotn's original pick outside of top 4 and Phoenix get non lotto pick from Orlando

Scenario 2:

Phoenix and washington both wins lottery
then Washington gets the best top 4 pick, Orlando gets 2nd best top 4 pick and Phoenix gets non lotto pick from Orlando

Scenario 3:

Phoenix lose lottery
then orlando gets Phoenix' pick in (presumably) late lotto range

I see. Basically, the Wizards would be getting the best two picks out of WAS, PHO and ORL. You are right, that swap is indeed relevant.
