Spurs are not ready to contend, they're at least a year away and that's assuming everything goes right: Vic gets healthy and picks up where he left off, Castle takes a big second year leap, Sochan figures out some of his offensive woes, they hit their draft picks and free agency signings and figure out a sensible rotation, etc. Spurs shouldn´t make big, costly moves until they have clarity, otherwise it could bite them in the ass and set them back for years. Plenty of teams got overexcited and pulled the trigger way too soon, only to be left behind trying to catch up.

Spurs are a no nonsense, conservative organization, perhaps like no other in the league, yet the board treats them like they were owned by Ishbia or ran by Isaiah Thomas or Daryl Morey, trading their most prized assets for very expensive, injury prone vets well into their thirties, any value you can squeeze out of them should come in the next 2/3 years where they're unlikely to be able to capitalize on it. This makes it a strategic blunder, unless we're talking a value proposition you can't pass up on (much like it happened with Fox). So yeah, if the board just disregards the Spurs context it's no wonder pretty much every Spurs fan around is going to be against it.

I think you guys are all underratting KD and the year he's had. Plus the equally good one he had last year. But I get that our record has dimmed that down.

I'm not underrating KD at all. He's still a great player... but he's 37, and he's an injury risk. For a Spurs team that isn't ready to win a title he makes little sense.

That is the point. With Durant plus Harper and all the other stuff your guys have..... you would be ready to win a title. He raises yr ceiling

26’ ATL swap

Still an overpay for KD.

I can see them hanging on to the ATL pick. Maybe swap for Utah’s 2nd in 26’.

Adding KD isn't enough to get the Spurs to title contention.

I'm still not sure I see the point. Dude is 37 and an injury risk.

Doesn’t impact their future flexibility.

It does because it's very likely both Vassell & the #14 are better than KD in 3 years (assuming KD is even still in the league). Taking away useful future assets to go 'all in' with a 37 year old, when you're not ready to win yet, makes little sense.

Like, Spurs would take KD on thr cheap, but this isn't exactly cheap. How about the Spurs trade filler salary only plus 2 lottery protected picks of their own.

Castle and the 14th pick would swing the value to the Johnson/ Barnes/ Castle package by about a 60-40 to 70-30 range.

I find it hilariously ironic that fans of certain teams whose shortsighted midset left them in shambles would have the nerve to tell others to follow in their footsteps. Yeah, sounds like a plan

It depends on which team you're asking.

For the Nuggets: KD

For the Wizards: Castle + 14

I wouldn’t trade much for KD if I was the Spurs. The Suns are in complete desperation mode. There is no reason to give them a good deal. I’d offer whatever contracts work up to KD’s contract and some overly protected FRP’s and if they say no….move on. KD is old as hell. He’s still one the greatest to lace them up, but for how long?
