They traded for Quentin Grimes though.

Grimes had no value coming off a really bad year w/ NYK and Detroit IIRC

I don't think that was the belief at the time. In fact in discussions on this board when we talked about that very trade before it happened, the most common position was that Dallas owed a first. I don't remember your position but I remember getting a lot of push back when I would say Grimes was nothing special. Now I was happy with the actual trade where Dallas gave up minor assets and saved money while getting a playable guard back.

But we didn't perceive him as worthless a year ago. His perceived value as a player has certainly gone up since that, but it wasn't starting as worthless.

The revisionist history is interesting here. Here is the thread from then (just learned about the search function, user friendly!).

Kuzma doesn't really eat away their 2026 dreams. A couple 2nds would dump his final year.

takes more than 2 seconds to dump 20M

Joe Harris was dumped for 2 future 2nds and cash. There should be suitors to dump Kuzma for 2nds and cash.

Most people thought Weaver sold that space too cheap. I think that the difference between the receiving team getting back Wiggins (who could be flipped later) and Kuzma could be a first. As we're talking about the Heat, they may not have that extra first.

Jarret Allen isn’t winning you anything. Garland won’t show up in the playoffs. Mobley is a glorified dunk man. Mitchell has some experience but is a liability on defense. To me, the Cavs are a treadmill team.
