I agree that it would probably cost more than we should give up. But if we got the right deal, I’d absolutely take Trae and return to a small no defense PG as long as we surround him with defense. I’m still convinced Dame could have worked, just not with CJ as his sidekick, or Simons as his sidekick, or the ever evolving door of SGs pretending to be SFs serving as our perimeter defender, and having lineups with Melo and Kanter next to other poor defenders, etc. But if we got Trae, shipped Simons out, brought in a better defensive guard, and played him with Camara, Deni, and Clingan, I think there is something to build on.
